Overview

'Dim rhosyn coch yn fy holl ardd!' gwaeddodd

'No red rose in all my garden!' he cried

a'i lygaid hardd yn llawn dagrau

and his beautiful eyes filled with tears

'Ar ba bethau bach mae hapusrwydd yn dibynnu!'

'On what little things does happiness depend!'

'Yr wyf wedi darllen popeth a ysgrifennodd y doethion'

'I have read all that the wise men have written'

'Holl gyfrinachau athroniaeth yn eiddo i mi'

'all the secrets of philosophy are mine'

'Eto i gyd am fod eisiau rhosyn coch mae fy mywyd yn cael ei wneud yn druenus'

'yet for want of a red rose my life is made wretched'

About the Author

About The Author

The ever-quotable Oscar Wilde (1854-1900) was an Irish playwright, novelist, essayist, and poet who delighted Victorian England with his legendary wit. He found critical and popular success with his scintillating plays, chiefly The Importance of Being Earnest, while his only novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray, scandalized readers. Imprisoned for two years for homosexual behavior, Wilde moved to France after his release, where he died destitute.
