For 43 years, I was a performing puppeteer and builder, often playing to crowds of 40,000 people per year. On March 12, 2020, I played my last show—I didn't know it was my final one, but it was.

In times of great change, stress, or joy, I always turned to writing. I would buy a new book—a blank book represents a new beginning, a blank page offering so much possibility. My shelves are full of many different sizes and types, most only partially filled.

On March 13, 2020, I started writing again, every single day. I was focused on figuring out my new world, trying to turn that change into a positive, creative experience. I had to ask: who was I now?

That journey led me to start designing the kinds of journals and logbooks that I truly wanted to use. This was the beginning of The Right Journal Project, dedicated to sharing simple tools for creativity and reflection.
