As a child, Subi drew all the time. In every room of the house and sometimes even on the walls. He was born in Mthatha, grew up in Pretoria and completed high school in Hammanskraal. In 2010 he went to Cape town to study architecture at UCT and worked as an architectural technologist for a few years, but he never felt as if he was adding value to the industry. He started illustrating when he was busy with postgraduate studies. The feedback he received from classmates, encouraged him to start freelancing through online services such as Upwork and Fiverr.

Subi aims to create warm and colourful scenes in his illustrations and to represent African people in all their beautiful textures, tones, sizes and features. Being a children’s book illustrator has brought him great fulfillment and he loves helping to bring stories to life and sharing these stories with readers.
