It is WWI and Canada has entered the war. Young men enthusiastically join up while mothers and sweethearts stay behind and fill the jobs that once were only for men. Rilla, the youngest of Anne and Gilbert's children, struggles to find how she can possibly contribute. At first frustrated by being the "baby sister," she soon is challenged by opportunities that will change her beyond her wildest imaginings. This is a coming-of-age story with all the lovable aspects of the first Anne book, yet with a compelling sense of historical immediacy.

About the Author

Lucy Maud Montgomery (1874-1942) was a Canadian novelist and the famed author of the Anne Shirley series. She found instant literary fame upon the publication of her first book, Anne of Green Gables. She published 20 novels and 500 short stories during her lifetime and was the first woman to be named a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

Kate Handford is a classically trained actress who is based in London. She trained first at Ryerson Theatre School in her home country of Canada and then later at London's Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. She can be seen on stage, television, and film, and her voice-acting can be heard on audiobooks such as Cara Hoffman's Running and Hillary Manton Lodge's Jane of Austin.
