A Celebration was a non-LP single released in 1982 after
October and well before
War. The versions of these songs do not appear on any other
U2 release and the single was deleted after six months, making this one of the most rare
U2 collectibles. This single contains studio versions of
"A Celebration" and
"Trash Trampoline and the Party Girl." Rumor had it that
"Party Girl" was written about
Adam Clayton, but
Bono denies it, admitting only that it was inspired by the bassist. Interestingly,
"A Celebration" was a short-lived staple in the
U2 live catalog; it was first performed in February 1982 and last in March 1983. In spite of that, the
Hot Press Reader's Poll voted the song number in the Best Single category. The
A Celebration single has never been released on CD. ~ JT Griffith
