In order to verify your credentials as an Educator, enrollment is available in store only. You may enroll at all Barnes & Noble stores, as well as Bookstop, Bookstar, Doubleday, and Charlesbank bookstores. Enrollment is not available at B. Dalton stores, Barnes & Noble College Bookstores, or online at www.bn.com.

How much does it cost to enroll in the Educator Program?

Enrollment in the Educator Program is free. No purchase is necessary.

When does the Educator card expire?

The card will expire 24 months after the date of activation or renewal, on the last day of the calendar month in which it was activated or renewed.

Who is eligible for the Educator discount?

To be eligible for the Educator card, you must:
  • Be employed by an accredited pre-K-12 public, private, or parochial school. Those eligible include teachers, guidance counselors, principals, and reading coaches, for example. (Substitute, student, and retired teachers are not eligible.)
  • Buy books/materials that we consider suitable for use in the classroom or with the student population.
  • Provide a photo ID and school ID/pay stub from the school you work for when enrolling in the Educator Program.
Homeschooling parents are eligible by providing a photo ID and a letter with the following information:
  • Family name and address
  • Name of homeschooling parent(s)
  • Grade level of each child being homeschooled.


What discount will I receive by joining the Educator Program?

Barnes & Noble offers pre k-12 educators, librarians, and homeschoolers a 20% discount off the publisher's list price on select items that we consider suitable for use in the classroom or with the student population, including most hardcover and paperback books, toys, and games.

Restrictions:

  • Discount not available on music, DVDs, Blu-ray discs, periodicals, gifts, the purchase or renewal of a B&N Membership, textbooks, gift-wrapping, Café items, the purchase of a Barnes & Noble Gift Card, gift certificates, digital content (including but not limited to digital books, magazines and periodicals), certain digital devices; audiobooks in MP3 or any other format, shipping or handling expenses, or any products provided via BookQuest (e.g. used books, PC and video games, etc.).
  • The Educator discount does not apply in conjunction with any other coupons, unless specifically noted, or with any corporate or prearranged group discounts such as the following: the Barnes & Noble Member Program; Barnes & Noble.com Professional, Technical and Business Bookstore discounts; employee discounts; Student Advantage discounts; in-store corporate, institutional, and volume discounts.
  • Purchases made by individuals using the Educator card are not tax-exempt. (Teachers purchasing items for the school to be reimbursed later, see below.)
    • Purchases made by schools and not-for-profit organizations will be processed with an Institutional discount and will receive tax exemption when accompanied by a purchase order and tax identification number. If a purchase order is unavailable, the teacher must have a letter from the school stating supplies are for school purposes and payment will be reimbursed.
Note: Schools or districts can open an Institutional Account and save 20% on purchases under $4,999 and 25% on purchases of $5,000 or more.


Where is the Educator Discount Card valid?

The Educator card may be used to get discounts at Barnes & Noble bookstores as well as B. Dalton, Bookstop, Bookstar, Doubleday, and Charlesbank bookstores, and online at www.bn.com.

Educator discounts are not available at Barnes & Noble College Bookstores.


I have an old Barnes & Noble Educator Card issued prior to August 2009. Do I need a new one?

Yes, in order to continue to receive the Educator discount, and be able to use the Educator discount online, please apply for a new Educator card at Barnes & Noble stores. New cards are not available B. Dalton stores or at Barnes & Noble College Bookstores.

If I join today in store, will I receive my Educator discount on today's purchase?

Upon enrolling in the Educator Program, you will receive the Educator discount immediately in store. The Educator discount will be available for online purchases approximately 1-2 days after in-store enrollment.

I bought a large number of books in-store or online recently. Can the Educator discount be applied after I've made that purchase?

Purchases made prior to enrollment in the Educator program, or purchases made without using your Educator card, will not be credited a retroactive refund.

Can I use my Educator card in combination with my Member discount or Institutional Account to get a bigger discount?

No, Educator benefits cannot be used in conjunction with any coupons, unless specifically stated, or with any corporate or prearranged group discounts such as the following: Member discounts; employee or organizational discounts; library discounts; government discounts; Student Advantage discounts; in-store corporate, in-store institutional, and in-store or online volume order discounts.
