About the Author

Sing C. Chew is professor and chairperson at Humboldt State University in Arcata, California. His most recent book is World Ecological Degradation: Accumulation, Urbanization, and Deforestation 3000 B.C.-A.D. 2000. J. David Knottnerus is professor of sociology at Oklahoma State University. His research interests focus on social psychology, social theory, social inequality, and the role ritualization plays in social interaction and structural processes.
