This compact book comes with an attractive red cover and contains lectures and symposia materials from the proceedings of the 6th International Workshop on Cardiac Arrhythmias. In each chapter a specific issue pertaining to a specific cardiac arrhythmia is addressed. This book is meant to represent the state of our present knowledge about cardiac arrhythmias and anti-arrhythmic therapy. Just as the proceedings, this book is aimed at the clinicical practitioner specializing in cardiac arrhythmias and their therapy as well as the trainee specializing in cardiac arrhythmias. The contributors address and discuss a variety of contemporary issues in atrial fibrillation and flutter and supraventricular tachycardia including their pathophysiological, electrophysiological, clinical, and therapeutic aspects. Uncommon forms of ventricular tachycardia are included. Sudden death and its prevention, including recent trials of implantable defibrillators, are discussed. Current evaluation of syncope is also discussed. Information on cardiac pacing, including practical issues, controversial indications, novel stimulation sites, and modes for specific conditions such as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, congestive heart failure, and atrial fibrillation are presented. Reviews of recently concluded clinical studies and trials and their impact on changing current practices are presented. Each topic comes well referenced for the reader wishing to delve deeper into the subject. Figures and tables are limited but well chosen to illustrate a point.
