Edwin "Magic" Mark Brooks was born in Henderson, Kentucky near the beautiful Ohio River. Half of a set of identical twins, he and his brother, Mike, enjoyed a childhood marked by amber afternoons playing baseball or exploring the nearby Audubon State Park. His childhood experiences in the 1970's outdoors kindled a passion for a healthy environment and a sustainable way of life. It's this passion that fueled his first children's book Buddy the Bass and the Gooey Green Slime.

Diagnosed with ALS in 2013, Magic Mark had to reinvent himself. ALS robbed him of his ability to walk, play guitar, and sing, but magnified his creative spirit and his passion for humanity and the environment. This dramatic life change is what led him to begin his new career as an author.

The first book of The Beaver Creek Lake Series, Buddy is a children's introduction to environmental responsibility. The story tells how Buddy the Bass helps to save his lake and fellow creatures from the poisonous Gooey Green Slime that is being dumped into their lake by the evil Monetary Chemical Company.

The next book of the series, Bethany Beaver and the Bullying Bullfrog is in the works right now and will be available sometime in 2023.
