About the Author

GRACE CRUNICAN As general manager of Bay Area Rapid Transit, or BART, Grace Crunican oversees more than 3,500 employees and $30 billion of transportation infrastructure. But that is only the culmination of a pioneering transportation career. She has also helmed the Oregon and Seattle Departments of Transportation and has held numerous federal, state, and local government positions including deputy administrator of the Federal Transit Administration. In addition to her extensive public service, she is also a past president of WTS International and has served on many boards of directors including the Mineta Transportation Institute and Railvolution, on which she serves today. Crunican is the mother of two children and freely admits parenting is both the "toughest and most rewarding job" she's ever had. ELIZABETH LEVIN Liz Levin, president of Liz Levin & Company, uses her experience to advise transportation, design, and environmental companies on leadership, organizational development and strategy. Having risen to leadership roles at both Metcalf & Eddy (now AECOM) and Rizzo Associates (now TetraTech), Levin also has held positions on numerous boards of directors including the Massachusetts Department of Transportation and the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority. Currently, she serves on the board of Normandeau Associates, a national environmental science firm. She also has been President of WalkBoston as well as Chair of the Massachusetts Government Appointments Project, an organization advocating for women in government. A longtime WTS member, Levin served as WTS International president. Levin is a graduate of Wellesley College (Wellesley Scholar) and Simmons School of Management (highest honors). She has a Masters of Urban Affairs from Boston University.
