About the Author

Matthew McKay, PhD, is a professor at the Wright Institute in Berkeley, CA. He has authored and coauthored numerous books, including The Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills Workbook, Self-Esteem, and Couple Skills, which have sold more than a million copies combined. He received his PhD in clinical psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology, and specializes in the cognitive behavioral treatment of anxiety and depression.


Larry Smyth, PhD, is a Vietnam veteran and has been working with clients who suffer from PTSD since 1982, when he began treating combat-induced PTSD at Florida State University and in his private practice. He has been employed by the Department of Veterans Affairs since 1985 as a team leader, associate regional manager, and a regional manager for the Vet Center Program. Currently, he is a member of Trauma Service at the Baltimore Division of the Department of Veterans Affairs, Maryland Health Care System. He also has a private practice and a courtesy staff appointment through the Sheppard Pratt Hospital, where he specializes in the treatment of anxiety disorders on an outpatient basis.
