About the Author

Milcha Sanchez-Scott is the daughter of a Colombian-Mexican agronomist father and a Dutch Indonesian-Chinese mother. She was born on the island of Bali in 1954. Educated in England into her early teens she graduated from the University of San Diego after her family emigrated to California. Although Ms. Sanchez-Scott lives in Los Angeles, California, in her head all of her plays are set in New Mexico.
She holds a First Level Award for American playwrights from the Rockefeller Foundation for 1987. In 1983 Ms. Sanchez-Scott won the Vesta Award, given each year to a West Coast woman artist, and the Le Compte du Nuoy Foundation Award, which goes to "a young writer with a unique voice." In 1983-84 she was a member of INTAR Theater's Hispanic Playwrights-in-Residence Laboratory, directed by María Irene Fornes. During her New York residency she began work on a full-length play, Roosters, and three one-acts under the collective title City of Angels.
