Description: This is a second edition of a basic science monograph that deals with physiologic concerns of female athletes.
Purpose: This book intends to explore the medical issues encountered in female athletes. These issues are addressed, but are dealt with primarily on a basic science level.
Audience: The book is intended for physicians and basic scientists, but concentrates heavily on basic science. The orthopedic section is weak.
Features: The references are up-to-date, but the paucity of illustrations makes the book appear dull.
Assessment: Although the title is appealing, this is basically a physiology text dealing with female athletes. A second edition to deal with these topics was probably not necessary.
