About the Author

Mrs. Arlene Day was born and raised in the South Bronx by her natural mother and stepfather along with seven siblings. We laughed, cried and fought together. Life as she knew it was natural, full of its ups and downs. Always being told by her older siblings that she couldn't measure up or become somebody, she grew up very insecure about herself. The one goal she had growing up was to become a nurse. Against all odds and against the advice of her teachers who thought she was under too much stress, she graduated from high school with two degrees; her high school diploma and nursing diploma as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Later she married and became the proud mother of three beautiful children. She practiced nursing in the city and in Long Island where she raised her children (two girls, Charmaine and Melissa and a boy, Nigel) to become somebody. All three of her children graduated from universities (Cornell and Clark Atlanta Universities), one has her masters from Columbia University. All of her children are respected, born again, tongue talking, Christians. She just became a grandmother for the first time to her granddaughter, Sariah. She is retired from nursing, is a motivational speaker and am a presenter for the National Association for the Mentally Ill In Our Own Voice Program. Currently I am learning Spanish, knitting, crocheting and helping others to become the best they can be.
