About the Author

Ms. David is a diverse talent that has been called a “Renaissance Woman.” Why did the store clerk at a Radio Shack store give her this name? Perhaps because she sings, acts, dances, is a songwriter, of which David Producti ons was formed; she has a one-woman show enti tled “African Heritage Storytelling and Song,” in which she displays her talent as a historian telling about the underground railroad in Detroit and singing slave code songs; she has a greeti ng card line enti tled “Reality Cards” and “Focus T-Shirts” that include some of the poetry from the cards, she has a publishing company which she named aft er her two oldest grandchildren: Alexus/Emmanuel Publishing, and of course she is also the CEO of David Creati ons. Ms. David has appeared in various movies and stage plays throughout her career. Her fi rst two-book set was compiled, typed, and promoted totally by herself. You can fi nd it at the Shrine of the Black Madonna bookstore or simply go to the Detroit Public Library’s Burton Historical Library secti on and ask for “The Detroit Performing Arti st Resource Guide and Directory.” A new editi on has not been printed due to Ms. David’s return to school to att ain a Masters of Teaching Degree with Endorsements in Learning Disabiliti es and Educati onal Specialists. Ms. David is an English teacher with the Detroit Public School District. She calls herself the actor/singer turned teacher. Ms. David’s granddaughter, Brooklyn, asked her to play bubbles with her one weekend. Not believing that she was actually blowing bubbles so that Brooklyn could chase them, she told her daughter, Barbara (who is Brooklyn’s mom), “I’m going to write a book about this.” Her daughter replied, “If anyone can you will, Naughty (a nickname one of Barbara’s friends gave to Ms. David).” By Sunday when her daughter came to pickup Brooklyn, Ms. David had writt en the book. She can draw but does not consider herself a Picasso, so she took pictures to bring the words to life. That was more than three years ago, and now the book is here with photos by Ms. David, and illustrati ons by an arti st for children ages three to nine-years old to read and be read to. Ms. David hopes that you will soon read books of her other fi ve grandchildren, in additi on to listening to a CD of her original and favorite songs. Yes, the woman can “Sang.”
