Overview

Turning around a struggling business requires a different mindset and a different skill set than managing a business through good times.

When a business is heading towards failure, managers confront some of the most challenging decisions of their careers. Very few are trained to handle these situations. How you manage the complexities will define not only the future of your business but your own future.

Survive in Business: How to turn your struggling business around is a practical guide to:

  • understanding the problems confronting your business
  • evaluating the strategy options available to you
  • planning and implementing the actions required to manage your business back to health.

It is essential reading for anyone trying to navigate a business through a turnaround.

About the Author

Steve Lloyd had his first experience with business failure in 1976, when the business he joined upon leaving university went broke. That business had been established more than 30 years. Fourteen years later, during a serious economic downturn, he began his long involvement with distressed businesses, when he found himself managing a team of bankers dealing with a large group of businesses that were experiencing financial difficulties. The downturn was so severe that the bank itself suffered serious losses and was ultimately split up and sold off. For the following seventeen years Steve was a consultant, advising and managing businesses through varying stages of the distress cycle, before joining a major Australian bank as a specialist workout banker to assist with the fallout from the Global Financial Crisis. In that role he has routinely managed a rotating portfolio of 20-30 small to medium distressed businesses in a wide variety of industries, as well as mentoring and training younger bankers. Survive in Business (surviveinbusiness.com) has been spawned from these experiences, which led Steve to believe that many business failures can be avoided by educating and supporting business managers in their understanding of the causes of business failure and the practices and processes to remedy them. It is his goal to equip business managers with the skills and knowledge to effectively manage their businesses through periods of distress, and to build their understanding of how to make their businesses stronger and more resilient.
