About the Author

William John Hardy (1857–1919) was an accomplished antiquary and writer. He was an authority on postage stamps and bookplates and wrote a number of books, including Lighthouses: Their History and Romance and The Stamp Collector (with E. D. Bacon). He also wrote books on the handwriting of the kings and queens of England.
