Meet the Writers
With a dark, daring body of work that began with 1996's Fight Club, Chuck Palahniuk has become a cult author who regularly attracts both the interest of Hollywood and the bewilderment of readers who have never seen writing so fearless, modern, and smart. In our interview, Palahniuk reflects, "I think if you're going to write books, you should play to maybe the largest advantage that books still have, and that is the intimate, ongoingly consensual nature of their consumption. Somebody has to be educated enough, and ongoingly read that book, word by word, turning the pages -- and that in a way gives you permission to depict things and to take them places that no other form of storytelling can go to at this point."
