The author of Everything Is Illuminated and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Jonathan Safran Foer brings philosophy, philanthropy, and a talent for turning language inside out to the literary table. In our interview, Foer talks a bit about coming to terms with the writing process. "You have to throw a lot away to come up with anything," he explains. "It's an idea I'm only now starting to get used to…. I used to think it was a mark of sloppiness, or not doing things as I should, and now I just think it's an absolutely necessary part of the process."
