Barnes & Noble Gift Card and Barnes & Noble.com Online Gift Certificate Terms and Conditions

  • The Barnes & Noble Gift Card ("Gift Card") can be used at any Barnes & Noble store nationwide and at Barnes & Noble.com. Gift Cards can also be used at any Barnes & Noble College, Bookstar, Bookstop or B. Dalton Bookseller.
  • The Barnes & Noble.com Online Gift Certificate ("Online Gift Certificate") can only be used online at Barnes & Noble.com.
  • Gift Cards will not be replaced if lost or stolen.
    Online Gift Certificates will not be replaced if used without authorization.
  • Gift Cards and Online Gift Certificates will not be exchangeable for cash, except where required by law.
  • A Gift Card or Online Gift Certificate cannot be used to purchase Gift Cards or Online Gift Certificates.
  • Gift Cards and Online Gift Certificates are issued by Barnes & Noble Marketing Services Corp., formerly known as Marketing Services (Minnesota) Corp ("MSC").
  • MSC is incorporated in the state of Florida, and the purchase and sale of the Gift Cards or Online Gift Certificates shall be deemed to be in the state of Florida.

Other Important Information

  • Purchase amounts that exceed the value of the tendered Gift Card or Online Gift Certificate will require an additional payment via Gift Card, credit card, PayPal (online only) or cash (store only) for the balance due.
  • Gift Cards and Online Gift Certificates purchased online are delivered separately from any other purchases.
  • Barnes & Noble reserves the right to hold any order for a security review. If your order is affected you will be notified via email within two business days.
  • To obtain your Gift Card or Online Gift Certificate balance, click here or call toll-free 1-800-295-3029.
  • A Gift Card or Online Gift Certificate may be used to purchase annual memberships in the Barnes & Noble Membership program (continuous billing memberships require a valid credit card).
  • A Gift Card or Online Gift Certificate currently cannot be used towards an eBook purchase. Please check back for updates.
  • Dormancy fees do not apply to balances on Gift Cards or Online Gift Certificates issued by MSC.

Barnes & Noble.com Paper and Electronic Gift Certificates

(These are the gift certificates issued by Barnes & Noble.com prior to November 2003)

  • Barnes & Noble.com paper and electronic Gift Certificates are for online use only. They cannot be redeemed in Barnes & Noble retail stores.
  • Barnes & Noble.com paper and electronic Gift Certificates cannot be used toward the purchase of used and out-of-print books listed on BookQuest.
  • The Barnes & Noble.com paper and electronic Gift Certificates will not be exchangeable for cash, except where required by law.
  • Barnes & Noble.com paper and electronic Gift Certificates may be used to purchase an annual membership in the Barnes & Noble Membership program (continuous billing membership require a valid credit card).
  • Purchase amounts that exceed the value of the paper or electronic Gift Certificate will require an additional Gift Card or a credit card to fulfill the balance due.
  • Barnes & Noble.com will not be responsible for lost or stolen paper or electronic Gift Certificates.
