How do I contact customer service?

You can contact us by simply filling out the email form at the bottom of this page. If you'd prefer to talk to us directly, call our Customer Service Center at 1-800-THE-BOOK (1-800-843-2665). International customers should call us at 201-272-3651.


How do I check the status of my order?

Click the "Order Status" button located at the top right-hand corner of this page and follow the instructions.


Does "ships within 24 hours" mean I should expect to receive my order the next day?

The "ships within" language refers to how long it takes to prepare each item for shipment. The time frames are based upon the availability of each item. Actual receipt is determined by many other factors, including the shipping method chosen.


How do I cancel an item from an order?

Click the "Order Status" button located at the upper-right-hand corner of this page and follow the instructions. You can cancel an order that has not already entered our shipping process. However, if your order has entered our shipping process it cannot be canceled. In those situations, you can return the order within 14 days from the date it arrived, and we will apply the appropriate refund.

To cancel or modify PC & Video Game items in your order, please call GameStop at 1-800-883-8895 or fax 1-817-424-2062 for help. You can also email GameStop's Customer Service Department at orders@gamestop.com. Please include your Order Number and the word "Cancel" in the subject line. If you are not canceling your entire order, please indicate which items you are canceling.



What is the return process?

Your packing slip provides specific return instructions and addresses — please refer to it for details.

Most Items
Returns are accepted within 14 days of the date that you received your order. Books, DVDs, CDs, and Toys & Games can be mailed with the original packing slip to:

Or, if you prefer, bring the item and your packing slip to any Barnes & Noble Bookstore within 14 days of receipt. Please call your local store for more details.

Used or Out-of-Print Books
Within 30 days, used and out-of-print books can be returned to the authorized seller indicated on the packing slip. The refund will be issued once the seller confirms that the item is in the same condition that you received it, and processes the return through Barnes & Noble.com's system.

If you don't have the packing slip, you can look up your Order Status and click the Check Status button next to the item. You will see the seller's e-mail address, which you can use to contact the seller for return procedures.

Video Games
You may return a video game to GameStop within 30 days. Please follow the instructions on your packing slip. Email BNorders@GameStop.com or call 800-883-8895 for instructions.

Returning Items from Other Vendors
If you would like to return an item that you purchased from another vendor, please check the packing slip for specific return instructions and addresses.

Items That Cannot Be Returned
We are unable to accept returns for magazines, downloadable PDFs for SparkNotes and Quamut products, gift cards, shrinkwrapped items that have been opened, or used and out-of-print items that are not in the condition in which you received them.

Bulk orders of 50 or more copies are non-returnable.

If your return is shipped or brought to a store after the timeframes indicated above or without a packing slip, we regret that we cannot issue a refund or send the merchandise back to you.

Please note: Shipping charges are non-refundable.



What's the difference between the "Ship everything together" versus the "Ship items as they are available" option?

"Ship everything together" is a request for us to ship the order only when all of the items in the order are available. This option typically minimizes shipping charges. "Ship items as they are available" is a request to ship each item as it becomes available. This option tends to be a more expedient way to receive individual items because of different availability time frames, but it may be more expensive due to additional shipping charges for each shipment.
