How to Search for Software

To search, click on the Software button in the top navigation bar on every page. Once you're on the Software home page, go to the Quick Search field at the top of the page. Enter the information and select title, keyword, publisher, or UPC code from the pulldown menu. Then click Search.

Or click on Advanced Search on the Software home page. If you know the title, publisher, or keyword, enter as much information as you know into one or more of the boxes on the search form. Our advanced search engine can find a software title even if you remember only part of the title or publisher's name. You can narrow your search by selecting one or more options: category, price, and UPC code. Then click on Search.

Your search results will display a list of software titles sorted alphabetically. You can sort your results by title or publisher by clicking on the bar above the results list. Click on Refine Search to modify your search. (Please note: At this time, Barnes & Noble.com does not ship software to Canadian or other international addresses.)

Notes on Software Upgrades and Sidegrades

A software upgrade is a switch from one version of a program to a newer version of the same software, for example, switching from Excel 97 to Excel 98. A sidegrade (or competitive upgrade) is a switch from one publisher's software to another's, for example, switching from Microsoft Works to ClarisWorks.

You can purchase upgrades through Barnes & Noble.com. You do not need proof of purchase of the old version. Our development team is working on electronic delivery to make your software purchases more convenient in the future.
