What does the Barnes & Noble Member Program do with the information I provide? Is it distributed to other companies?

Your privacy is important to us. Please refer to our privacy policy, available here and at Barnes & Noble stores.

I want to take advantage of the Member benefits, but I don't want to be placed on a mailing list or receive unwanted emails. Can I become a Member and be assured that does not occur?

You may select to opt out of all B&N communications, but you would miss out on Member-only special offers and discounts, an exclusive benefit of Membership.

How can I opt out of receiving email or direct mail offers?

Click here for instructions on how to opt out of Member communications. Or you can fill out an Update Member Profile form at any Barnes & Noble bookstore or call Member Services at 866-238-READ. You can also opt out of email by following the directions at the bottom of every email message we send.

Why am I not receiving any promotional emails or special offers from Barnes & Noble?

There are a number of reasons why you may not be receiving emails from us. Here are the most common:
  • Emails are sent to the email address provided at the time of your enrollment into the Member Program, when you provide your email address in stores, or when you create an account at bn.com. Therefore, the email address on record in your account profile may be out of date, incorrect or invalid.
  • Your mailbox could be full
  • Your server may be busy
  • Your ISP could be blocking Barnes & Noble communications
  • We may have removed you from the active mailing list due to several failed attempts (bounce back) of communicating to your specified address
  • You or your ISP may be using a "spam" filter that inadvertently blocks the legitimate emails you have subscribed to

What should I do if I am not receiving emails and would like to receive them?

  • As a Member, you can check your email address and confirm that it is up to date or add/remove an email address anytime at www.bn.com/memberprofile or if you are not a Member, simply login to your bn.com account and update "Account Settings". Be sure to review your "Communications Preferences" and confirm that you are opted in to receive email from us
  • If your email address is correct and re-entering it does not seem to help, your Internet Service Provider (ISP) may be using filters to prevent unwanted emails from reaching your inbox. Sometimes, these filters also block messages you want to receive. In most cases, adding us to your list of trusted senders will solve this issue. In AOL, select "Add Address"; in Yahoo! Mail, Outlook or Outlook Express select "Add to Address Book"; or Hotmail or MSN, select "Save Address(es)".
  • If you use a "spam" filter, check your preferences to make sure you have not inadvertently flagged emails from the "@email.bn.com" and "@email2.bn.com" domains as "spam."
  • If your problems receiving email persist, please contact your ISP's technical support department and ask how to "whitelist" emails from BN.com.
