NOOK Study Blackboard Building Block - FAQs

Can the building block be configured for multi-domain environments?

Yes, our newest version offers the ability to create and configure sub-domains. This is a great solution for schools with one master instance for several campuses that have different bookstores.

What happens when you click on a link but do not have NOOK Study loaded?

The first time you click on a NOOK Study link, you will be prompted to indicate whether you have NOOK Study installed or not. If you do not have NOOK Study installed, you will be directed to the NOOK Study page where you can download the application and take advantage of the free College Kick Start Kit that includes: Kaplan’s Study Strategies, Spark Charts, College Survival Guides, and free eBooks.

Is any individual user information tracked while the software is used?

No individual user information is tracked or stored by the block. The block only stores general usage information at the institution level as an aggregate — for example, "How many students have clicked on a Buy button? How many textbooks have been assigned using the block?". The NOOK Study integrations cannot see individual user information.

How is the block used by faculty?

Faculty have the ability to add an "Assigned Textbook" page to the menu and to select textbooks to appear on that page. This is a convenient way for faculty to make their book list available to students in the LMS. Textbooks appear with "Buy Print" and "Buy Digital" buttons that take students directly to your campus bookstore, allowing them to get their course materials quickly and easily. Instructors can also add links to pages or sections of NOOK Study eBooks.

How are the eCommerce settings established and where do they go?

The eCommerce configurations have been set up by Barnes & Noble to direct students to your campus bookstore. If you have questions or need to make changes, please contact Barnes & Noble at nookstudy@book.com.

My institution runs an independent college bookstore. We are not a Barnes & Noble campus; can we still adopt the NOOK Study building block?
