LOVE This!! **They've Fixed Some Of The Bugs**...,

I got this for Christmas from my hubby and I absolutely LOVE it! I initially saw this in a cooking magazine in November and was drawn to it as I'd never seen anything like it...basically it's like a Kindle for my kitchen! I read all the reviews I could find, went to the Key Ingredient website to read up on it, and ultimately decided I needed this (I really did too, my recipes were scattered ALL OVER this house). Some of the main problems people had with this device when it first came out seem to have been taken care of.

The Demy comes with a bunch of recipes preloaded on it. Some people may like this, but from what I've seen, many do not. I went through them all and only found one recipe out of the bunch I was interested in keeping, so I moved it to one of my personal cookbooks. If you email Key Ingredient support and let them know you want them removed, they'll get back to you VERY quickly (I heard back from a rep within 10 minutes) and tell you they've deleted them for you, and the next time you sync your Demy to your Key Ingredient account, they'll all be gone (and they mean ALL, you can't pick and choose, so if you see something you like, make sure you add it to one of your own cookbooks). Also, I guess you used to not be able to delete cookbooks or recipes that you added to your account, well, this has been changed as well. You can now delete anything you add.

It does take a little time to add your recipes to your KI acct, but many of mine were from places like 'Taste of Home' or 'Kraft Foods', so I was able to cut and paste the picture and the recipes to my KI page. When you've entered in all your recipes and downloaded the software from their webpage, just plug your Demy in, hit the sync button on your browser, and all your stuff gets transferred to the device. Simple! ****Everything you do is through the website, you cannot add or delete recipes from the device itself.****

My only complaint about this gadget (and it's pretty small), is there's a font button that lets you select how large you want the text to be. I like mine in the middle, however the device will not remember this. So every time you turn the Demy on for use, is automatically goes to the smallest text. Not the end of the world really, just a minor annoyance. The graphics are very bright and clear, and shows photos of your recipes without any issue. I've used the converter tool a bunch of times already, and the three built-in timers are very handy if you're cooking more than one thing at a time.

Overall, I DEFINITELY recommend this if you're like me...someone who has a million single recipes or cooking magazines lying around. I would find a recipe in a magazine that I wanted to try, earmark the page, only to have it get tossed somewhere, or buried under older mags. This device lets me keep everything in ONE place! I have a Demy cookbook of my family's favorites, another one for recipes I'd like to try, and so on. When I try something new, it's a cinch to move it over to my family favorites cookbook, or to delete it if it was no good. This may not be for everyone as it is a bit steep in price, but if you cook often and want to get more organized, I absolutely think this is a good investment. I use mine almost every night.

    Love the DEMY

I'm not sure why people review something & give it a low rating when they've never tried it. The only reviewers so far for the DEMY rate it low - saying they would have no need for it. Having no need for a product doesn't mean that product isn't good. I have one & am thrilled with it. It's a great place to store & use recipes. The website, Key Ingredient is fantastic. You store your recipes & sync them with your DEMY. You also can see other peoples recipes & add them to your list. You have a choice of making the recipes you enter to be public, private or for friends & family only. It's easy to catergorize recipes into cookbooks, which makes it easy to find what you're looking for. The price on the DEMY has come down by 1/3 since before Christmas, which makes it even more appealing.

    Battery Sucks

My husband bought this for me a little over a year ago. I use it maybe a few times a month. The battery goes dead after one long cooking session or 2 smaller uses. I was constantly charging the battery, so now I just plug it in every time I need to use it. Luckily I have an outlet near my stove. I think it would be quicker to find my recipe from my cookbook than to wait for the Demy to charge every time. The concept of this is great, but the battery life sucks major.

    Thank You!

Hello all, I just wanted to drop in and thank our Demy owners for their reviews! We're very proud of the Demy, and we're so happy you are enjoying it. At Key Ingredient our mission is to provide cooks with the technology to do amazing things in their kitchen. So in addition to purchasing the Demy, thank you for being a part of our Key Ingredient online community, which boasts nearly one million recipes. YOU make our community as great as it is.

I would like to respond to a few concerns I saw: one reviewer mentioned the Demy not remembering designated text size from use to use. Thank you for that feedback. We are always working on Demy updates, and we will use your customer feedback to create new, friendlier Demy generations, as well as better smartphone apps. Keep your ear to the ground for new products, and be in touch with us about how you can update!

As for the Demy's battery life, the Demy comes with battery-saving user options, including screen brightness, dimming, sleep mode, and more. If you would like to discuss these options further, please feel free to speak with us over live chat (found on the My Demy web site). We pride ourselves on customer service and we'd be happy to talk with you!

Thank you all again for purchasing a Demy. For any further questions, please feel free to email or call us.

Waited to buy because of reviews. LOVE IT!

I waited to buy the Demy because of the mixed reviews. I had been holding on to some birthday gift cards and when it went on sale for Mother's Day, I couldn't pass up the price. I love it! Easy to use and add recipes to through Key Ingredient. Add the "Post to KI" button under your browser and favorite recipes from sites like Food Network are instantly in your "cookbook", no typing. Recipes you have at home are quick and easy to type in. I love that I can add pictures of my recipes at home. So as I've been making "my" recipes, I simply take a quick photo and the next time I'm in KI, I just attach the photo. So far no problems. Very happy!

    Why compare to the Nook?

As the previous reviewer said, this Demy is nothing like the Nook, so why compare them? I've been a bit miffed at B&N for not bringing out the Nook five weeks earlier in time for Christmas. If I could have bought my wife one for Christmas, I would have ignored the lack of a color screen (hoping that some color books will become available), but since the Nooks seem to be on a slow boat FROM China, I'll wait until a full color, full touch-screen version is available. It's only a matter of time.

As for the Demy, it's cute, but my wife is still tattering The Joy of Cooking and the Betty Crocker Cookbook. I don't think she'd appreciate another electronic wonder in the kitchen (besides the microwave and the dishwasher).

    Serves the basic purpose

The Demy I received actually seems defective and I am currently waiting for the RMA number to return it since the screen seems to go blocky when I scroll the page down. Product is okay but not worth the $218 spent on it.

    Awesome!

This thing works great! Use it all the time and easy to clean if you splash sauce on it.

Didn't work for more than a few seconds. Only response was to to leave it unplugged for 3 days and then charge it for 8 hours and hope it works. I am pretty sure I am going to return it. For $200 it isn't worth the cost.

    Great Device

I've had my Demy since Spring of this year. I've now entered all my recipe cards. I add recipes from various websites constantly. It is so handy to have recipes in one place and not have to shuffle through cards or books to find one. It sits on my kitchen counter plugged in at all times and ready to use. I am so happy I bought this and recommend it to anyone who cooks!!!

WHY spend this kind of money? Just buy a NookColor!

My husband bought me a NookColor for Christmas last year and after loading EPI app and all the cookbooks I have purchased for my NookColor, I really have NO need for this Demy although it does look very nice. I am extremely happy with my NookColor! It's the BOMB!
