They have a thick paper cover for some protection. The bindings are stitched, so the paper doesn't come unglued and try to fall out. This makes them rugged enough to carry around, which is useful. The pages are perforated so they can be removed. Good for grocery lists and things like that. No pocket in the back page.
They are not as rugged/robust as the Moleskin version, but less expensive, and for a paperbound notebook, I think they are great for the price.
