Bought this for school; I carry around about 9 inches (side length) of things total in my backpack (Two 2 1/2 binders, 1 inch journal, scientific calculator, small planner, notebook, lunch). The side not being long enough for me was my own fault. However..

- The height is most definitely NOT 16 inches. More like 11 1/2. The drawstring won't even fully close because the tops of my binders (at 11 1/2 inches) meet the top of the backpack

- The front length, at 12 inches, is also not quite accurate. More like 11 inches, the front lengths of my binders. After I squeeze my binders inside, then I have to squeeze my water bottle into the side pocket. There isn't any room for me to fit my umbrella in the other side pocket!
And because the binders fit way too snug, they stretch out the backpack, making it thinner length-wise. Therefore, whenever I put my arm in to grab a pencil, it always gets squeezed due to the "thinness."

While it is cute, I definitely would NOT recommend it for school. Also, fix the measurements. To whomever measured the backpack while it was laid flat, please do it full. Secondly, the side length (no, I am not talking about the height) is NOT 16 inches as it says in the description. It is 6 inches, as in the title.
Supposed measurements: 16 inches high, 12 inches front length, 6 inches side length
Actual measurements: 11 1/2 inches high, 11 inches front length, 6 inches side length

This is a great backpack! I think the person talking about the measurements is very confused. 16 X 6 x 12 is indeed the size of this bag. 16 is the length, 6 is the width and 12 is the height. NO one measures bags when they are full- that doesn't make sense. These measurements are the correct ones for the bag empty. The length is with the top open. That's just the way its done. That being said, again I love this bag! I use it for everything and it's help up for quite a long time.

This is such a cute backpack to own for school, PLUS it has the water bottle side pockets. Inside the backpack includes a zipper pocket and two pockets for pens or gum. And the adorable outer zipper pocket of the product is ideal for quick and easy grab items like a small planner. And this backpack is very fashionable, and the double handle at the top can be used as a tote bag. I got mine in the Olive color at my BN store with my employee discount! Yay!

I love this bag! I bought it for a recent trip to Disney World

I love this bag! I bought it for a recent trip to Disney World "Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party". I used it as my purse and camera case (I have a big camera). The interior is lined with a big zipper pocket perfect for Disney treasures. The larger outside pocket was a great place to store my rain coat, the thin kind and Disney autograph book. My stainless steel thermos fit perfectly in the side pockets but ... I wish they were a little deeper, the thermos containers would fall out from time to time. I also wish they were mesh. All in all, I am very pleased with my purchase.

This bag is a winner!

Love the fexiblity of backpack or shoulder sling or handles. Lots of room. The side pockets are a bonus, and the pull toggle makes it easy to close and go.
