The leather feels really nice. It's supple and plyable. The two pen holders are great, too. they are a feature that drew me toward this journal and away from all the others at B&N. I also like the leather string closier, though I wrap each end around once and tie a big bow in the front unlike the display picture. The only problem I'm having with this journal is I don't have any fantastic tales to write about yet!

I've had many journals over the years, but this is by far the best. Its ease of use, comfortable leather, pen holders, and tie wrap make it easy to use everyday and everywhere.
I travel with it when I go on business trips or vacation, and the way it lays flat and smooth makes it easy to use in bed at night, while you jot down the last of the day's thoughts before going to sleep.
With other journals, I would get bored or they weren't comfortable to use, so I would stop writing after a while. But this one is so inviting, I can't put it down!

Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged. For the last three months I've looked for a leather journal that writes well with my fountain pens and I've concluded that this is the one. First of all, this 'leather journal' is more like a leather book cover, surrounding a paperback book. Secondly, yes, there ARE refills available for this journal. The cover is made of semi-soft leather and will age beautifully with time as it accumulates new scratches and scars along the way. I've seen plenty of refills at larger (and more well-stocked) Barnes and Nobles. (Perhaps it's easier for me to gain access to them, since I live in a major CA city.) I am actually very happy to purchase ONLY the refills for this journal, because they take ink like a dream and they're only $6 each. There's even two spots within the cover to hold your pens. The refills hold well within the leather cover. The journal is as good as the paper it's filled with and this paper takes well to my vintage Parker 51/21, as well as my cheap Hero 616. There's no feathering, whatsoever. Actually, the lines laid down by my fountain pens are true to their nib ratings (fine, extra fine, medium point, etc), and write even better than in Miguel Ruis journals, and definitely better than the (over-rated) Moleskine journals. This is a must have for any writing enthusiast.

I purchased my first one 9 years ago and worried that I wouldn't be able to find another one now. Much to my pleasant surprise, B& N still carries this journal! This is the best journal I've ever seen, from the soft leather to the ribbon marker to the fine quality paper. It's such a pleasure to write in! Get this journal - you won't be disappointed!

The leather is soft and the fact that you can tie it shut is a plus. One of the things I like most about this journal is that the pages are refillable. I love all leather journals but hesitate with the ones that are not refillable. The refills are reasonably priced. I usually give one refill with the journal when I give it for a gift. Anyone who likes to write or is traveling will love this journal.

This is a very nice journal overall, and the price is great compared to other journals available. I journal regularly, and this journal did well, but I prefer to write small, and the spacing on this journal supports larger text than I normally write. That's really the only drawback-- I ended up cutting the leather tie off of mine as it got in the way. If you are going to be carrying your journal in a backpack or bag, however, the tie is great for protecting it.

When I purchased this journal, it was an impulse buy. This time, it turned out to be a good one!
The perfect size to tuck into the pockets of my travel bag or into my purse, it's elegant and practical at the same time, a rare combination these days! Two places for a pen and the leather tie-close strap means I don't have to dig around for something to write with and it doesn't fall open or get beat up during the trips around town.
I find that with a journal on hand, I can jot a quick note or two about my day while I'm at lunch, or sitting in the doctor's office, or playing at the park- a wonderful ability for busy people who still want to keep a record of their time!
The pages are thick and sturdy without being bulky or inflexible, the leather is smooth and tough and the book itself is replaceable for when you finally finish and want to start again. The ties are easy to use- I rarely tie mine shut, though. Long straps means I can just wrap the laces around the book and it stays shut in my bag!
Beautiful, functional, and tough- I couldn't ask for more!

I ordered this as a gift for my husband. It seems to be very good quality and my husband is excited to be able to put it to use. He didn't really like the tie-feature, and wound up removing it--he felt it was too long, though now the book is constantly partially open. He may put it back on, but shorten it. He likes that there is somewhere for him to put his pens, and says he'd like to take it on Safari in Africa (he has no such thing planned, but maybe I'll get a vacation out of the deal!).
Great buy, especially for the cost!

I can not say much about this item other than the fact that I love it.
I have taken it with me on herb walks when it has been raining and never got a single page wet while I was taking notes. Also I love the fact that there are two places to put writing utencils and that the book inside can easily be replaced when one notebook becomes full.
Great design!

I purchased this for my daughter-in-law for christmas. she was very happy with the journal. It is a beautiful leather journal. She will have this for years, like that you can buy replcement paper when you run out of the pad that was included. Really a nice journal. Love barnes and noble. One of my favorite places to shop. I never need a reason to buy from here. Online or in person a great store.

I wish I had this journal when I went to Thailand and Europe, but I use this journal on a daily bases. I love it. It's not to big and not to small. I don't know how I did not have this on my trips. It's perfect for taking notes at church and journaling. I LOVE IT.

I bought this journal over 2 years ago and is still as good as ever. The tie got in the way too much so I removed it and placed two metal snap buttons at the top and bottom. Much more convenient. If you're looking for a journal get this one.

It is small enough to fit inside of a medium size handbag and has pockets for your pens. It is classy and stylish so I am proud to pull it out during Executive meetings.

For a long time I've been looking for a journal to write in w/o feeling girly about it. I love carrying this journal around and I've come to really enjoy writing in it. I feel like Russell Crowe in Master & Commander writing in his journal at sea. It holds together well, the pen slots are great, the leather is nice, but it just has this great rugged look. *grunt grunt*

I bought the Brown Leather Wrap Traveler's Journal based upon the positive reviews here on B&N's site. I am not disappointed! The leather is sturdy yet supple, the pen & pencil slots are very handy, and the actual journal insert is a smooth, creamy paper that screams to be written on. Another big plus, in my eyes, is that this journal is refillable. The line spacing is ample enough to allow for larger handwriting (or baroque flourishes). I bought this in August with the intention of transfering my 2010 journal from PC to paper. It's been an easy and almost therapeutic process so far, in great deal due to the pure pleasure of using this traveler's journal. The leather strap is a bit long, but I find it easy to wrap around the journal and tie off to keep it securely closed. When I'm writing I let the straps dangle off my desk breadboard, or I pull them up out of the way. This journal uses a Kraft Refill #3 (5x7) and I've not had a problem finding them at my local Barnes & Noble - so far. An excellent product and I hope Barnes & Noble continues to carry this and the refills.

This journal is soooo good!! i have other journals where there were no places to put my pens, and when i opened up this journal theres 2 slots to place your pens. The leather is really great quality too, and most importantly doesn't have that overwhelming leather smell which would leave me unconsious to wake up with a face load of ink!! The edges have been reinforced with stitching all the way round which give it a quality look unlike some other journals that are just a slab of leather cut out. The wrap around strip can be removed, or adjusted to tie in a bow tie, or wrapped 2 and half times round. The Paper quality is a normal lined booklet, which can be removed and replaced with "refillabe type three 5X7" according the B&N. This journal will accompany me on the Indianna jones adventures that lay ahead!!

Cant find refills for this journal! Its good in theory and the quality is great, but what's the point of selling a refillable journal and not suppling a refill? Also 5 x 7 refills at other sites is rare, and getting quality paper is impossible. Very disappointed, will definitely read the fine print next time. I suggest researching insert before choosing a journal. Unless of course you want a one time use journal.

I just bought this yesterday as a gift and my local B&N didn't have the size 3 refills in stock so I went online to order an extra refill to go with the journal. B&N online has size 2 and size 4 journals but no size 3! Why are you selling a REFILLABLE journal without selling the refills? This will be returned to the store ASAP and I will find a refillable journal that actually has refills.

Like the paper for writing, size for carrying around, the straps are ok, tend to get in the way when loose, but when done writing - it's nice feeling of completion to tie up when done for the day. What I don't like is the cost of replacing the journal refill. It costs the same whether you buy the leather binder with it or not. I returned mine and am going to find a less expensive alternative. It won't be easy finding the right size with the same quality of paper.

I bought this journal for my husband. He uses it as a fishing and hunting journal, and loves that it looks "manly." It's pretty enough that I don't mind that he leaves it lying around the living room.
