We needed some nice heavy bookends, so I ordered these bears, and I was pleasantly surprised when I received them at how beautiful they really are. It's almost a shame to hide them in the bookshelf. The picture given here is a good representation, but still doesn't do them justice. They're nice and heavy too. Now I've ordered another pair as a housewarming gift for some friends.

These bookends are just beautiful. Even though they are not brass material, they are the perfect weight and size for standard sized books. The color is not painted on as the one bad review indicated, I believe that the material may be carved soapstone.
Barnes and Noble should have provided a more detailed and accurate description.

I received these bookends as a gift, but I could no longer hold on to them as they were a waste of my New York apartment space. They are small and do not function as bookends, as the books would make them fall over. Although not light, it is too light to be used to hold books, and I think it's due to the esthetic necessity for the paw to appear to hold up the books.

After examining these carefully, neither my husband nor I could believe these things had actually been described as brass. We were sent small, unattractive 'figurines' that appear to be made from a ceramic material and painted to resemble brass bears.
The only description on the page was "Polar Bear Brass Bookends". In our opinion, that description is completely off.
They resemble neither.
They're much too small to use as bookends for all but the
tiniest of books - and not many of those!
Occasionally I've kept online purchases that did not live up to my expectations - or their online descriptions - but still of high
enough quality to keep tucked away for a last minute hostess and/or
gift emergency. But I'm fairly certain an inexpensive bottle of bad wine would be a more welcome gift than these two. Awful, just awful!

I am an alumni of Ohio Northern University-mascot the Polar Bears. These bookends really are lovely. They seem more like stone than brass and will be beautiful on my desk.

Most aesthetically interesting bookends I have seen in ages. Friends and family noticed them and loved them!
