I absolutely love this reading light. I like to read in bed and this is perfect when you don't want to keep everyone else awake with the light. It just fits right over the page you are reading and lights it up perfectly without lighting the entire room up! I use it for a book mark as well. You need to clean it periodically as the lens gets smudged up and that's all you have to do, except change the batteries occasionally. I love that it doesn't use any specialty type batteries so no expensive upkeep and really the batteries have lasted me a couple years and I use this almost every night! Everyone on my Christmas list gets one this year if they didn't already last year! Note: I've tried the & quot paperback& quot size and it is a waste of money " too small" so stick to the original full size as it works great on paperbacks as well as hardbacks.

The concept seems simple: if you read at night and share the bedroom with a spouse, as I do, you need a decent source of illumination. I've tried a LOT of book lights over the years. Many are too dim, offering no better illumination than a common flashlight. Some lay down light in a tiny pattern that covers only a minute portion of the page being read. Many are too ungainly in use to permit easy turning of pages. Some go through batteries like nobody's business.
I saw the Lightwedge and was immediately drawn to two important features that distinguished THIS book light from so many others I have tried: 1) it is designed to spread light evenly over the page 2) it claimed to operate a long time (40 hours) on just 4 AAA batteries. I was also attracted to the fact that this book light rests over the page and need not be attached to the book being read.
Illumination is provided by long-life, LEDs, a form of lighting that is known to be bright while being gentle on battery usage.
The Lightwedge was shown at Barnes and Noble in two sizes: the Original, which measures 6.75" x 9.25" is good for standard books. There is a smaller version sized for paperback books. I chose the larger Original model.
The Lightwedge proved to be all it is advertised as being. It provides a gentle sheet of light across the page I am reading, free of glare or hot-spots. The light is soft, but sufficiently bright to permit hours of reading without causing eye strain. I have used my Lightwedge through hours and hours of late night reading and have yet to replace the set of AAA alkaline batteries originally installed.
I like the Lightwedge so much I returned to Barnes and Noble and told the associates working there that THIS is the best book light on the market. I recommend the Lightwedge to friends and purchased a Lightwedge for my sister who is a late-night reader.
The Lightwedge does cost more than other book lights on the market, but the extra cost is WELL worth the investment. It REALLY works.

I'm a nightowl and my husband is an earlybird, so over the years I've tried a dozen small booklights to no avail. The lightwedge is a Godsend. I started with the smaller one, but then bought the larger to use with hardcovers. I have severe astigmatism and most book lights cause small print to blur on the page because of the uneven shadows they cast. The lightwedge radiates arcs of light evenly across the page evenly from two points. There are no shadows. Print is sharp and clear even when the plastic gets scratched. One observation: As the batteries get near the end of their life, the light will become dimmer. Folks who find the light dim or ueven on first use should check to be sure that they've got fresh batteries. Everyone else, recharge or replace as soon as you start to see deterioration in light quality. If you use the lightwedge nightly, expect to change your batteries every six to eight weeks.

Overall I would buy another Lightwedge if the need arose. Two things you may want to consider. if you are buying it for a young reader, the surface is quite easy to scratch. Applying a plastic polish or protectant used for boat or plane windscreens is advisable. The second is the edge of the viewing area. If pointing at you and the Lightwedge is perfectly aligned with your eyes the light can be quite bright. I painted the edges black and the problem was solved.

Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged. My lightwedge functioned, but didn't illuminate the page at all. In fact it made reading HARDER by casting pretty much the entire page in shadow. It costs an arm and a leg and doesn't work. BN should drop this from its line of products.

I love this light. Compared to numerous other lights I have found this is not bulky and light up my page great. I read alot at night and my room can be pitch black and I can still read my book perfectly with this light. It does scratch easily, I have taken great care not to scratch it but it seems to have come out of the package with a couple of scratches. However this not interfere with my reading and this is the best light I have found so far. I only wished it came larger and upon research saw the Harry Potter lightwedge is bigger so I may get the bigger size but other than that this light is great.

I've has one of these for about a year. It arrived already scratched before I opened the box, and the surface quickly became more scratched/damaged, even though it was always stored inside a book or soft bag. The light is good for reading in the dark but it is definitely NOT even. It is also very cumbersome to turn the page while using the wedge. On the other hand, the light is very good, and my husband says it does not bother him, even if I read in the car at night while he is driving.

I got tired of the book lights that only light a small section of the page, so decided to make the investment to buy the Lightwedge. It is worth every penny! The Lightwedge lights the entire page and makes it easy to read, no matter how dark the room is. I like it so much, that I also bought the bigger size for the hardcover books.

I love, love, love this lightwedge original. I've tried many other book lights and they just "spot light" pages. This covers the entire page, well lit, in a dark room. I highly recommend this product!

Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.I had a small sized paperback version, and then saw this larger sized harcover or softcover Lightwedge was available.
These are great lights to have when traveling, and especially work well when your husband wants "lights out".
The main problem I had with my original smaller version and now this newer one is that the glass seems to get scratched very easily. It seems the slightest movement can leave an unremovable scratch on the glass, which can get a little annoying. I may be being too hard on my light...I did not purchase a cover or carry bag,
All in all this is great for night time readers who are sleeping next to someone who has to get up earlier than you do, or for someone who might like to read when traveling with others.
I think the price is reasonable and will have to see if I can do something about all the scratches on my glass. Batteries really last for quite a while too.

I have both sizes of this book light - hard back size and paperback size. They are wonderful!! So easy to read in bed or in the car. They are also a very handy bookmark. I highly recommend them.

I recently purchased this light as a gift for my spouse and he absolutely loves it. It is very bright, very comfortable to use and allows the other spouse to sleep without being bothered. Great Light! I am purchasing more for Christmas Presents..

I purchased the Lightwedge for my 76 year old father who is an avid reader. When he told me that it didn't give off enough light I was surprised because I had heard so many great things about it. So, I tried the light myself and he was right! I could barely see the page. There are much better reading lights on the market. I would not recommend purchasing this product.

Overall, I am very happy with the LIghtwedge. It lights up the whole page with white light, not the blue light of some other lights I have tried.
My one complaint is that the batteries do not sit quite right and the light occasionally starts to flicker until I adjust the on/off switch. However, it is not often enough to make me stop using it.

I read a lot especially at night. Over the years I have tried all different stiles of book lights. None of them ever illuminated the whole page evenly and I was always having to move the light around the page as I read. The Lightwedge fulfills these features as the light is distributed over the full page and the only time you have to move it is when you change page and is not more irritating than turning the page! The light is bright enough that you do not have to have other lights on in the room, so your mate can sleep peacefully in the dark and you can read with no eye strain. I bought the large size so I could use with all books, but I like it so much I may go buy the smaller size for paperbacks as it also serves as a bookmark! Only problem is must be careful with screen as it scratches and gets finger prints easily. I just clean with soft cloth after every book. FIVE STARS FOR THIS BOOK LIGHT!
Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged. This is the WORSE book light I have ever purchased as even though it has LED lighting, it is not sufficient for reading. It makes a good light to get up and walk around the house using as a flashlight. I am seriously thinking of returning it, if I can find the receipt.
The best light I have found is the light voyager Phorm reading light.
This one cannot be beat on lighting and use. The only drawback is that the electrical connection frays and then you must use batteries.
