I came to scouting late as a boy of nearly 13, loved it and grew up in that same troop to become Scoutmaster replacing my friend and mentor who taught me everything I know about it. He recommended this magazine for evey scout in the troop (the kids too poor to subscribe got hand-me-down copies from the other kids). This magazine gave us ideas for trips, advancement tips and program ideas. I personally used the series of Boy's Life reprint articles and diagrams on camping, orienteering, cooking, ropework, etc. during seven summers in my youth as an instructor in scout skills at Ten Mile River Scout Camps, the second largest scout reservation in the world. I now live in Australia with my seven year old son whom I have enthralled with tales of my life as a scout for his entire life. He wants to be a Cub Scout here and I look forward to doing my part to help him along his way. The day he joins I'll begin by buying him a subscription.
