If you frequently use your NOOK Simple Touch outdoors or in direct sunlight, the Anti-Glare Film Kit is an excellent way to improve the visibility of your E Ink screen. The film has a specially formulated matte finish that resists both glare and fingerprints; it also protects your screen against scratches, dust, and dirt. Easy to apply and remove, the film leaves no residue the screen. The kit contains 2 pieces of clear film and a microfiber cloth.

The description on the package says that the screen protector is easy to apply. This may be true, but only if you do NOT follow the instructions to the letter.
The second step says to use the tab to remove the 'mask' that's covering the sticky side of the film. This is the problem - if you remove it all the way, as the instructions indicate, the film becomes unmanageable due to static. It "leaps" at the screen when it's close, making careful alignment with the edges all but impossible, and/or trapping air bubbles (or dust, dirt or fibers from the cloth) underneath. And unless the air bubbles are right at the edge of the film, they'll be very difficult to coax out.
You need to uncover only a little bit of the sticky side, line it up right the first time (it would likely capture dust if you have to re-place it, in addition to the above difficulty), and gradually smooth the film down onto the screen as you pull the 'mask' out from underneath it.
So, ignore step 2 of the instructions, be careful, and it should work. I give it no more than 3 stars because the instructions really need to be accurate to the right way of applying this screen protector, especially if B&N is going to call it easy to apply!

Although the new Nook is wonderful, I found the screen protector kit to be terrible. I do believe a screen protector is essential, in order to protect from dust, dirt, and scratches; so I do recommend using the kit, flawed as it is. First of all, apply the film before using the Nook, so you don't start off with a dirty screen. Clean the Nook's bare screen with a good lens-cleaning or microfiber cloth, not with the cloth that comes in the kit. This cloth leaves black particles on the screen, and they can get stuck under the film. Be very careful aligning the film. It is a near perfect fit, so you have to position it precisely. Finally, it is extremely difficult to avoid getting bubbles, and it is difficult to remove them. Try using a folded index card to "sweep" them to the edges. Good luck.

Just follow the simple steps
1) clean your Nook screen off, and make sure it's dry.
2) peel a little of the backing of the protective screen away and line it up to the edge of your Nooks screen
3) slowly flatten the protective screen out peeling the backing away. If you notice an air bubble just rub your finger over it toward the nearest edge. I say the nearest edge since it makes it easier.
4) Once the protective cover is flat look for air bubbles and follow the same advice from step 3. If you were careful in step 3 there shouldn't be many.
And last a tip on air bubbles, always rub in the same direction. Rubbing back and forth does nothing except cause you to be irritated. The static charge of the protective screen is enough to resist falling off, or even coming off unless you -try- to peel it up, but it will make way for air trapped within it if you put pressure behind it. Don't just press down on the bubble. You want to start with your finger on an area that doesn't have a bubble and move it toward the bubble so your finger tip will press against the edge of the bubble.
Pressing flat down on the bubble won't 'pop' the bubble, it'll just spread the bubble out into smaller bubbles if anything and make your task harder.

I was worried after reading some of the negative reviews that this would I would be disappointed with this product. However, it does exactly what it's supposed to and more. It creates a matte finish to the screen (looks more like the traditional nook when it's in book mode) AND totally eliminates those pesky fingerprints that were driving me INSANE! I found myself spending more time wiping prints off then actually reading, and now, no more! I highly recommend this (I had the guys at the store put it on, assuming they were better then I would be).

I am very sorry to report I cannot recommend this product (as is). No one wants to admit that they have or may have OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) or that they are just a little fussy over a tiny bit of: stray hair, dust, immobile bubbles, finger smudges, or fuzz; however that's what this product has brought this particular reviewer to realize (and to my amazing local B&N's nook expert--(I'm so sorry "E", thank you for trying those several times)). I am currently on my third screen (second kit). Why my third? Unless you live in a pet-free, human-free, hypoallergenic bubble, apply said screen kit with rubber/special gloves or live in static free environment; you will never need to ask. It is pretty much impossible to not encounter a bubble or a stray particle of anything floating in the air on your screen. I believe the cloth that is included is part of the larger problem, if used "too often" it will actually start to fall apart and the little balls of fluff will flake off and stick to your screen. Also, I have noticed that when my local B&N's nook expert first put the screen on, he meticulously wiped the screen with the kit's supplied black cloth and when I got home (before I found my first immobile smudge at the corner) I noticed that when angled light hit the screen I could notice a very faint RED streak. Very odd! I tried to ignore it, but after a few days I had enough of staring at the smudge at the very corner of the screen cover more than actually reading and I peeled it off (please be careful when you peel the screen off). Now when I did, I thought I could try again with the other screen they supplied in the kit. No luck, I couldn't even get it out of the package right and it bent and was unusable. I figured then that I could live without a screen protector and carefully wiped the screen with a dampened cotton circle and to my surprise the odd red-black streak that was marring the middle of my screen came off. I don't know maybe the humidity we have been experiencing or what happened but the color seemed to come off the little cloth and found its way onto my screen. I agree with other reviewers, there IS a need for a protective screen but not this version. I am now on my third screen and have another particle at the corner of my screen (it's driving me absolutely batty, but I dare not take the screen off; I need it). The negatives of this product far outweigh the positive. It does work as an anti glare screen protector (minimizing finger prints and worry of scratching the sensitive touch screen but I can't enjoy reading when I see those annoying bubbles or "puckers" in the corner). I wish someone told me or warned me that it would cost more than $17.00; it would cost me a little sanity. Please reconsider product if you think you suffer from OCD or have "finicky" tendencies. Also I highly recommend any one considering buying to maybe asking your local B&N's nook expert or book seller to apply your screen (they will be more than willing to help you).

Wow. I a shocked at all the people who hard trouble with this product. I have used them on both my Nook 1st edition and my daughter's Simple touch with any issues.
A few tips...Clean the screen, clean the screen, clean the screen. Maybe even use a little windex or water to help remove the dust.
Treat the protector like contact paper. Only remove the edge from the protector, line it up before you smooth it into place. Once its lined up begin to slowly peel back the protective back sheet and smooth down the protector as you go. This way you will notice any air bubbles before the whole protector need to be removed.
Hope this helps someone.

The Nook is now cheap. You can feel fine by not putting it in a case or protecting the screen, which is incidentally already bearing a matte finish. In a year of two you will probably be replacing your Nook with a color eInk device--they're already showing up.
But, maybe you really think you need to waste money on this; the urge to consume is strong. If so, here's how to apply any protector:
1. Go to the bathroom and turn the shower on hot. Close the doors, don't turn on the fan, let it get steamy. This causes the dust in the room to fall to the floor.
2. Clean your Nook's screen with a residue-free cleaner like isopropyl alcohol.
3. Blast all dust off the screen with compressed air.
4. Working slowly, apply the protector diagonally, pressing out air bubbles from the center toward the edges. Mush any remaining air bubbles out in the same fashion.
5. If that didn't work, you maybe have better luck applying protector #2 after a spritz of water is applied to the screen. The nook's screen has a tight fit with the bezel, so the water shouldn't flood inside and cause problems. What the water will do is allow you to easily position the protector and mush out any air bubbles. This is how window tint is applied to glass.

I bought this product for my nook and overall I did not have any problems with the instulation of the screen protector. The black cloth that came with it is a different story. The cloth put black ink all over my fingers, my nook, and my brand new cover. The cover is ruined and the brand new nook has black smudges all over the casing. Very disappointed. If you get this product, DO NOT USE THE BLACK CLOTH.

Bought this when I got my wonderful e-reader. The cloth that came with it left black fuzz all along the bottom edge; it was impossible to get the air bubbles out. And I VERY carefully followed the instructions. Took it back to Barnes and Noble Store yesterday (July 15th, 2011) and tried to get my money back. No go. Cannot get money back if the package has been opened. Even if it doesn't work for you! So, I'm told that one of the clerks is a pro at putting the screens on and will apply my second one for me. After he finished, I go to the Cafe to get a coffee and enjoy my in-store reading time. Lo and behold! There is a piece of black fuzz under the screen protector in the upper left quadrant of my screen and at least a dozen other small air bubbles. This is a lousy product that even a Barnes and Noble Tech Person can't get applied properly! Don't waste your money. Barnes and Noble should be ashamed of scamming their loyal customers with this ripoff. Speaking of scamming--why do new members get such great deals while us old faithfuls don't get anything new? I'm very frustrated with B&N this week.

I just tried to put the Anti Glare Screen on my Nook and it was a completely frustrating experience. You get two screens and a cleaning cloth with this product. When I used the cleaning cloth as instructed, it left black fibers on my screen which is a real problem if you are going to put a film on it! After using canned air to remove the fibers, I tried to put a screen on the Nook. I followed the directions provided but after every attempt I had significant air bubbles that I could not remove. After multiple attempts I noticed that the screen had picked up dust and debris, so I tried the second screen but I got the same results. I recommend the Nook wholeheartedly, but I do not recommend the Anti Glare Screen at all. It is a complete waste of $17.00.

NOOK manual states: "To ensure the highest quality of reading imaginable, NOOK Simple TouchTM with GlowLightTM has an anti-glare, screen protector already installed. The use of any additional screen protectors may damage the device and will void the warranty." So you're selling us a product that not only is totally unnecessary, but also voids the warranty. Sheer genius.

Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.I've installed anti glare screen protectors on both my color Nook my second generation black and white Nook and have had problems both times. I find it impossible to install these things without trapping dust and bubbles under them no matter how careful I am and how many times I try. Also, once it's installed it's very difficult to remove without crimping it. To make matters worse the cloth that comes with it is terrible. It leaves little black particles that get caught under the protector. Throw it away and buy a microfiber cleaning cloth at an office supply store.

I bought this item thinking it was worthy of me trying. After 4 applications and too much time trying to get all the air bubbles out I put it all back in the bag and will be returning this item. BUT I LOVE MY NOOK!

I feel kind of embarrassed to have paid $17 for two sheets of plastic and a microfiber cloth, but I'm glad I did. After having owned a Kindle, and swaddled it in a $30 case, one of the design features I like most about the Nook Simple Touch is the rubberized case. I don't feel I need to protect as much as the Kindle. Adding the screen protector gives me as much protection as I think I need for the Nook Simple Touch--rubberized case, protected screen. I leave it face down when not using it, and if I carry it in something like a pocket or brief case, with a little care the screen protector will adequately protect the screen. So, this expensive screen protector helps me to have a minimalist, light and easy to use ebook reader. The installation wasn't too hard, and I'm not the most deft guy. I used a strong overhead light, followed the sensible instructions provided by another reviewer, was very careful not to let flecks of microfiber cloth remain on the screen after cleaning, and realigned it a couple of times in the process of applying it. Very happy with the installation. By the way, there are cheaper similar products available. But some require the application of soapy liquid to the screen (yuck!) and others have an unacceptable glossy finish. So, for my purposes, this product should do what I want. I'd feel better, though, if it were $10 or less. Minus one star for the high price.

My fiance bought me this screen protector when he got me my nook, and I put it on as soon as I opened the nook. It went on easily, although like other reviews have said DO NOT take the film completely off the sticky side, only peel it off enough to line up the edge and then peel it off as you flatten it out. Also having a plastic card on hand to press out any air bubbles, like a drivers license or something similar, really helps.

I agree with the idea of protecting the nook screen. I agree with the comment I read about the instructions being misleading, however I was told by the lady who sold it to me to peal back just a corner and use a credit card to sweep all the bubbles out. This also makes it easier to align. Once I got the screen on properly I found that the touch screen was a lot less sensitive to my touch making it much more difficult to navigate. I give this product one star because this window says I have to. Otherwise, I don't think I would even rate it that high.

Microfiber left small fuzz didn't see till after applied and difficult to remove bubbles even as instructed making me having to remove reapply multiple times and by then even more fuzz and lint small amounts but enough to drive me crazy that I could see it. didn't notice any antiglare benefit. Also i have no nails and was extremely difficult to remove it had to use some card board and then a plastic paperclip i had and was terrified I was going to scratch it. Waste of money I wish I can return it. I may call and ask but seems unlikely. WASTE OF MONEY DO NOT BUY!!! It's a shame due being touch screen really wanted something to protect it. I don't remember this much difficult with my iphone. maype due types of screen i guess.

A lot of people are giving this item a bad rating because of bubbles. Everyone in my family has a Nook Simple touch and I have put one of these protectors on every one of them and have not had any trouble what-so-ever. I personally think these people just aren't installing them correctly. They are very easy to install and last forever. I've never had to replace one and they are so easy to clean. A must have for you Nook Simple Touch!

The nook salesperson told me a screen protector wasn't needed as the screen has a protective coating on it, maybe he did not want to install it as the reviewers have suggested.

My husband and I tried to put the screen protector on twice, and all we got was bubbles. We followed the directions perfectly, and the screen still was filled with bubbles. Both screen protectors ended up being unusable, after trying to fix it several times. I called my Barnes and Noble store and explained the whole situation and they apologized. They said they could help put it on, but I would not get my $16.95 back, and I would have to spend another $16.95 to start all over again. Extremely disappointed.
