The Mercer is everything I wanted in a cover for my nook. I have small hands and I really prefer to hold the nook, while reading, without the added bulk of any type of cover. Also, while in my bag, nothing can get between the covers of , say, a book cover-type of case, pens or keys for instance, to scratch up my nook.
The mercer has no added bulk, fits like a glove. There is padding inside for additional protection and the case itself is hard molded leather, so it has some substance to it, not filmsy. I have read other reviews on this, but I have no problems with the quality of the leather or workmanship. For the price, you won't get soft calf-skin leather but if you want a sleek, good-looking, low-maintenance and functional cover, THIS IS THE ONE FOR YOU.
I withheld one star because I'd like to see more colors for the Mercer, please

I was given my Nook as a birthday gift a few months ago. As with all my electronic devices, I wanted to make sure that the nook stayed in the same condition as the day I opened the well-protected clear enclosure that it came in. Having looked at all the other covers, I determined that this one was the best for the following reasons:
1)While the silicone sleeves protect most of the nook's body, they do not protect the screen itself. Yes, a person can buy a clear screen cover, but a silicone sleeve and clear screen cover are not sufficient for protecting the nook. First, the silicone is soft and will in no way protect the nook if you happen to place it in your backpack, sandwiched between other items. The pressure from a pen or perhaps even a book against the nook could damage the screen and/or the edges of the nook. On a more aesthetic note, the silicone accumulates dust and lint readily with its sticky, rubbery texture, making it both easy to get dirty and difficult to clean. In addition, the gummy texture and propensity for dust simultaneously make the silicone feel odd in one's hands as well as give the nook an unsightly appearance.
2)The cloth slip covers and even some of the designer-leather slip covers do cover the entire body of the nook, but each one that I have seen has some softness in the material, which would make the nook vulnerable to the pressure from the outside forces upon it. Unless you are never going to take your nook outside your home, you will need something that will protect the nook when you pack it in your carry-on bag or luggage for travel....or simply in the car with you. Further, on a more economical point, many of those designer slip covers are far beyond what I would consider to be a reasonable price range at $40 or more---especially considering they only cover the nook without the added and necessary benefit of a harder shell.
3)The Contour Frames, which allow one to simply slide the nook into a sleeve, expose the page-turn buttons to damage in addition to leaving the all-important screen vulnerable to damage.
Bottom-line: The Mercer Slip Cover provides a hard shell that protects both the entire nook(both the screen and the page-turn buttons). This is the best slip cover available if you intend to take your nook with you for travel or simply out to your local Barnes & Noble to take advantage of the in-store reading option. In addition to protecting the nook very well, it also saves on the pocketbook at a price of only $29. Some of you might ask how it will protect the nook WHILE you are reading it. For one thing, the nook will ideally be in your hands for reading when you are not transporting it. Though it will depend on the person, I feel FOR ME that the risk of damaging the nook is highest when it is NOT in my hands during transport somewhere. I do realize that some of you might also have had the mishap of almost dropping your nook while dozing off in bed or in a chair (I have); therefore, I suggest that you get one of the contour frames for the times you will be using it. They are only $19.
Ideally, it seems there should be a cover that can do both tasks simultaneously, but until I see such an offering, I suggest you FIRST protect the nook for the times that it won't be in your hands with the Mercer Slip Cover and then use one of the Contour Frames if you think you are prone to dropping it while using it. The combination of both should protect your investment

This cover is hard like plastic not soft like leather. The description of this cover said it was leather. Since the cover is hard my nook keeps on sliding out of it. I am very disappointed with it. It is useless!

I purchased the Mercer Slip Cover for $29.95. This is too high a price for the quality of this cover. $19.95 would be the max I would recommend paying for this cover.
The cover is made of leather but it feels like plastic. The nylon lining is not very soft and I think over time will cause small scratches on the nook.
The cover fits the nook perfectly. It is secure, has a very low profile and I am confident it will protect the nook in my backpack.
If you are looking for a supple feeling cover, look elsewhere.
One word description of the Mercer Slip Cover: utilitarian.

Inner lining is slightly padded to add to the protection; the outer shell is very stiff and affords good stability to protect the screens. Simple, efficient. I would buy another if I ever have the need.

This hardshell, slip case for Nook is great for those like myself who prefer to actually hold the device rather than have it in a book-like cover. The Nook slips into the case easily and does not scratch against the case's inner lining. Also the Nook can be charged while in the case if you slip the Nook into the case upside down.

The primary goal of this type of cover is protection, and with this in mind, it is a fantastic cover. I bought my Mercer slip cover because I knew I would be carrying my nook in my purse. I was afraid that my nook would get damaged or filthy if I put it in anything but something sturdy and strong, and I felt that the more open covers would let the crumbs and makeup from my purse get all in the small crevices of the device. I've been carrying the nook in my purse since I bought it in Febrary, taking it out only to charge and to read, and my nook is still in pristine condition. If you tend to throw your nook in your backpack or purse, this is definitely the way to go to protect your precious cargo - your libary of books in your nook!

Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.Although all of the covers for nook are a bit on the pricey side, this slip cover has turned out to be a nice sleeve. It's quite stiff/firm, and does a good job of protecting the device without adding any unnecessary bulk. I can slide the nook into it, slip it in my bag, and not have to worry about scratched screens and damage to the reader.
It's also nice, because the nook slides into the case either way. That way, if I want to keep the device covered, I can still plug the charger in, simply by sliding the nook into the sleeve upside down and leaving the mini-USB port exposed.

Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.I really enjoy this cover, it is simple and functional and doesn't interfere with the reading experience. I decided on it instead of the other "book" style covers because I really like holding my nook when I read and didn't want to have all that extra stuff to hold on to while immersing myself in my novels. I travel constantly for my work and both the nook and this cover in particular have been a blessing, I don't think I will ever go back to paperbacks again!!

I wanted something simple which would give my Nook good protection. This is a solid case and fit the bill perfectly. I don't like to add to the bulk of my device when reading so the fold over covers were not an option for me. Only enhancement I would like to see is a strap over the top to ensure the Nook doesn't slide out. I created a simple one with velcro and it works fine.

I like it. It is well made and does the trick. I like holding the nook with one hand while in bed and didn't want to fool with the bulkier covers.

This cover is a jewel--rigid enough to provide protection for my device, but slim enough to fit almost anywhere. I like the notch at the top, which lets me turn on the Nook while it is stillin the case. I only wish it came in other colors! Otherwise, it's perfect.

I want protection for my nook, but not something bulky (like neoprene) that results in the nook being 3x as thick, and this fits the bill. It's easy to get the nook in, and out, too, but it doesn't fall out. I absolutely didn't like any of the multi-fold covers...if I wanted to fold open a whole book and use two hands, I'd have...well...bought a book to begin with. The "gel" covers don't cover the screen, and that's the main thing I want to protect...when I drop it in a briefcase, I don't want it banging around and getting scratched.
I'd have given this 5 stars if it weren't too expensive. I'd have been happier if this had been $10 less.

Not wanting to spend a lot of money for a cover but wanting to provide protection of my Nook, this cover fit the bill. It's a pleasing look but protects the screen when I drop it into my tote or hand bag. I wanted to be able to remove my Nook and use both the left and right page turning buttons. This cover helps me accomplish this. Good addition to the best reading invention on the market today!

For the money its does a great job protecting your nook. I was concerned that it would slide out but it hasn't yet. The case is hard enough that it want crush and slim enough to put in side my winter jacket. The only reason I wouldn't give it 5 stars is that it doesn't have a strap. I would recommend this product.

Nice hard case, I do put the nook in power button first that way it can not be hit and I have access to charge it that way.

This slip cover is made of elegant leather, is well-made and fits the Nook very well. It's thick to protect the device and easy to use. I use it when I slip store my Nook in a backpack and wouldn't go anywhere without it. I can highly recommend this slip cover.

I had read previous reviews and one glaring fault with this cover was that the nook will slide out but I wanted to try for myself. I like everything else about this cover, B&N missed the boat by not adding a way to secure the nook inside. I liked everything else about this cover, just wished it would stay inside.
