Let me start off that I LOVE my Nookcolor but the USB cord is unreliable. When I purchased my nook back in November 2010 I had to take it back because if was defective. Went to the B&N Store and they were extreamely helpful. Then I started having connection problems. Two weeks ago I went back to the store and they gave me a new cord. Worked great until last night. Started loosing connection again. Barnes & Noble should make a new cord and give everyone who has had a problem a new cord and or a voucher to replace the cord and or the nook if the connection in the nook is the problem and not the cord itself.

Like everyone else, I have had the Nookcolor 6 weeks and have been through 2 cords. Still waiting for my replacement to be shipped. What gets me the most is that the the Store manager and Customer service reps act completely surprised and state they have not heard of any problems!! Great Nook reader, lousy parts and customer service!!

I've had the Nook color since November and this is the second cable where the terminal connector to the Nook has broken off.

Today I just ordered a new charging cable for my NOOKcolor as I am on vacation and the nearest store is 50 miles away. This will be the fourth such cable that I have needed. Previously I took the broken cable back to the store where it was purchased and they simply gave me a new one. I'm ordering this cable that I must pay for because I brought the Nook so I wouldn't have to pack multiple books. I agree with other comments about the ease of reading and buying books on the Nook but if you can't get the thing charged then what good is it? Having the cable plug into the bottom of the device could be part of the problem. I read my Nook a lot and sometimes must read it while it's plugged in. I am very careful to hold my Nook "just so" but my husband says the quickest fix for the problem would be a 45 adapter that plugs in the current slot that would allow my power cable to plug in from the side. Obviously the best thing would be to change the location of the plug-in site completely but would probably be cost prohibitive. $250 might not seem like much money to some, but it is not spare change for us and my husband spent that to get me the Nook for Christmas. It is only August and I'm on my fourth cable--what's wrong with this picture???? Come on Barnes and Noble, FIX THE PROBLEM!!

Got NOOK COLOR for Xmas and immediately noted how unstable the charger connector to the machine was. Sure enough within 2 weeks the thing broke off in the machine. Despite careful handling! I was able to remove the piece in the machine but find, funny thing, there aren't any available for replacement!!!! Back to the drawing board guys and quickly please. What a disappointment.

I love reading on my new Nookcolor and getting books is easy. But it is virtually impossible to plug the USB charging cable into the slot of the Nook. I can't get it in; my husband can, just barely. I am afraid it will break in the Nook and then it will be useless.

I had the Nook Color for less than a month and the power cord broke. Called on February 2nd and was told that they were on back order because of their immense popularity. It is now the 23rd and I have called over 6 times, sent an email and still don't have it. Was told it was going to be sent last week - still have not received. Just got off the phone with an extremely polite supervisor and was told that they are furiously trying to get caught up with back ordered cords. I hope to receive within a week but I'm not holding my breath.

I had the same problem with my charger. The end had broken up within about a month of purchasing my nook color.

I've had my nook since November and my corrd recently started acting up and not work all the time. I went to my local barnes and noble and they gave me a free one. She even made sure it wasn't my nookcolor and would have replaced my nook if it was no questions ask.

This cable was kind of like hen's teeth. Not available in stores or online. When it allegedly finally became available online, I ordered one as a backup. It's been two weeks and still no $14.95 cable delivered for the $3.99 handling and shipping fee. An E-mail from CR assured me it was enroute. The NookColor is a great product with a weak link. BTW, no other similar size mini USB connecter will work in the NookColor.

I am having the same issues as the rest of the reviewers seem to be having. The metal part of the Nook end of my charger popped out of the plastic casing when I tried to put it in the other week. Still worked for a week, but now won't charge at all. Just e-mailed Customer Service and will be going to the store this weekend to see if B&N will help me out. Definitely annoying to have a great product with the exception of the power source!

My cable lasted three weeks, being used once a day: the plastic part housing the micro-USB just broke. This is the first and only of my 20+ USB cables to which this happened. Of course, B&N will replace it within warranty period, but this seems to be a common problem (just check various message boards), so the PR harm is done. Unfortunately, that micro-USB plug is proprietary (12 pins, not the usual 5), so you cannot use a generic cable; at least not for fast-charging. A replacement from B&N is $15 + shipping. Boo...

I too have bought 2 cords for my nook color and got it in late February. This will be my third one and at $15 a piece which was $24 since before they didn't sell separately. I'm starting to get bit upset and wondering why I spent so much on equiptment that fails so much....

've had my NOOKcolor for 5 weeks. From the start, I noticed that when it was plugged into the charger, often the n on the cable wasn't lit, so I had to manipulate it gently to start it charging. This had to be repeated 5 o 6 times until the NOOKcolor got charged. I noticed the other day that the prong that fits in the charger is loose and slightly bent. I obviously have to buy new one, which I will, but there is no excuse for such shoddy workmanship in this cable. I'm a real techie with all sorts of cables for devices and I've never had to replace a charging cord before.
I've tried downloading .pdf files from my computer to the NOOKcolor, but my computer doesn't recognize that it's plugged in. It appears as a Device under Computers and Printers, but I don't get the Media icon the Guide says you should. The .pdf files can't be dragged to the Nook icon, and my Safely Remove Hardware doesn't list the NOOK. I'm guessing that it's because of the loose cable connector prong.

Like many others, last night I plugged in my NOOKcolor to charge and watched as the cord that plugged into the Nook fell apart. My husband and I tried to see if it was fixable, but it wasn't. So this morning I called customer service since you can't just order a cord. It was a Christmas present, so the cable seems to have lasted longer than most. However, we also have an iPad for that long and have had zero issues with any of the cords or the actual device.
I called customer service this morning and the first representative I spoke to was helpful, then she transferred me over to technical support and that's when it started to go downhill. I spent several minutes verifying my e-mail address. I spoke my e-mail address slowly, spelled it, with letters like "s" and "m" I would say "S as in sierra" and "M as in Mike". However they replaced the "s" with a "z" and consistently had issues getting it right. Finally, once we had actually verified my e-mail address we went on to verifying my card information. It was just the last 4, type, and expiration date yet that took several more minutes as the language barrier was just too much.
I don't have a problem with outsourcing your customer service and I try and be patient, but it just got incredibly frustrating for both the representative and myself as we both struggled, I couldn't understand what he was saying sometimes and so I couldn't give him the information he needed.
Since this is an ongoing problem, maybe B&N should consider making a replacement cable available online for order until they get the issue with them resolved.

I too, have had several cords in the five months I've had my Nook (three cords). The EASIEST thing to do, if you are local to a B&N store, is go in and just exchange cords! I have done this all three times without issues. Waiting for a new one in the mail is too frustrating, and there turns out to be enough frustration with the Nook as it is.

I love my Nookcolor and read it everyday. Bought it in early March and for the last couple of weeks have been having trouble with the power cord/usb. I have a problem of getting the plug into the nook and then have to wiggle it to get it to start charging. As of today 4/25/11 I noticed a crack in the end that goes into the nook and now it won't charge at all. Will be going to Barnes&Noble tomorrow to get a new charging cord. The end that goes into the nook is to flimsy and I don't want to have to keep replacing the cord and I won't buy another reader. I will not recommend any reader it this happens. My rating is only based on the charging cord not the nook itself.

Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.I purchased a colored nook when they first came out. I went to charge my battery a few week ago and it fell apart in my hand. It is now 3 weeks and still no cord. First they sent me the cord for the regular nook and now I can't get them to send me the right one. I would not recommend the nook to any of my friends. First it's not worth the money and second you cannot get parts for it when they break down.

My power (usb) cord has always been a problem inserting into my Nook Color Touch. It finally stopped working and I called customer service. She said she'd send out a new cord. It sure wasn't shipped within 24 hours because it's not here yet and I ordered it last week. They said I should be receiving it today & maybe I will. In the meantime I bought a car kit and it has a usb cord which I'm using to charge my Nook. I don't have any problem plugging it into the Nook like the other cord so maybe the newer cords are better. Sure hope so.
