    Works Well

What can one say about a screen protector? It does it's job once it's applied and does it will. Covers the top screen except for a small bit around the edges (about 1mm), but this is expected and typical of most any screen protector.

Application is typical of any screen protector of this type. I've applied many screen protectors over the years on various devices and it does take some practice and prep.

My Tips (applies to any screen protector):
    1) Clean your work area before hand to remove any dust or dirt you may pick up.
    2) Clean all smudges of the screen. Angle it to the light so you can see better.
    3) Use some canned air to remove any dust particles/hair/etc just before applying the protector.
    4) Hold the protector by the edges as suggested by the instructions!
    5) Use a credit card to smooth it down gradually from one end to the other.
    6) Any minor bubbles can be worked out by rubbing them towards the edge with the credit card or your finger with the cleaning cloth.

The hardest part is getting it started. Once you have it lined up you should be good to go. It usually takes me 3 or so times to get it started the way I want.

On last though, the large protector for the eInk display can be hard to handle by the edges due to it's size. Don't take off the entire back when getting ready to apply it, peal it back only part way so you can hold onto it better without touching the adhesive site.

Screen protector application is a bit of an art and takes practice and patience.

    Great protection!

So far I like this screen film kit as it comes with a cleaning cloth and it helps protects the screens on my Nook. However, it was a little cumbersome trying to adhere to the screens without air bubbles. Additionally, (it may be just me) but with the film on the lower screen, when swiping your finger across to turn the pages it doesn't register and you have get your swiping just right to turn the pages in this manner. Overall, I like though as it protects the screens.

Don't Buy This!! Invisible Shield Instead!

First, recommend you install in a "clean room." the adhesive literally picked up dust out clear air which is impossible to get off resulting in a few bubbles that are now permanent. Worse, however, is it simply does not allow for smooth operation of the touch screen. **Edited** Just found at that Zagg has released the Invisible Shield for the Nook. BUY THE INVISIBLE SHIELD!! My entire family is sold on IS. I have it on my iPod Touch and Palm Treo. We bought the "whole" cover for my son's iPod Video since he hates covers. It's awesome.

Matte Screen Is Overpriced for Value

Like just about everyone else, I cleaned my Nook screen and touch pad with the rather flimsy cleaning cloth provided before I attempted to install the film. Both surfaces picked up lint debris and spoiled the application. Many attempts to re-apply the film simply produced less adherence, more debris, and bubbles that do NOT dissipate. I have left the film on for now but am concerned that the debris under the film will negate the purpose of having the film; i.e., to protect the screen(s).
Relative to the product the following express my feelings:
    1) Grossly overpriced at $14.95
    2) Poorly designed in relation to the thickness which makes it too rigid and difficult for application
    3) 1 set of film(s) for this price is beyond inexecusble. At least 2 set(s), if not more, should have been included
    4) some sort of application tool should be provided; no bubbles seems impossible
    5) the cleaning cloth is a joke. Could it have been smaller, less flimsy, less efficient? And how about something to store the cleaning cloth in to help it stay clean?
I'm not sure what I'm going to do about replacing the film; spending $14.95 with B&N is not an option. I wish B&N felt compelled to better develop their product before releasing it to consumers. Like Toyota, this needs a "recall".

This product is very difficult to install. If a single speck of dust gets between the screen and the plastic, the speck stands out like a pimple and is difficult to ignore. In my opinion, this product is more trouble than it's worth.

This is a good thing to have on a Nook

I bought this matte screen film kit to protect my Nook, so I would'nt have to worry about scratching the screen (especially the touch screem) Now that I have it installed, I am very pleased with it. It does'nt interfere with wiewing the screen at all and it stays put well. However, I did have some trouble getting the large screen film on without bubbles under it, but it was my fault for not getting the sreen clean, and I do mean CLEAN before installation. The first atempt had just a few timy dust particles under the film that caused some air bubbles. When I removed the film and tried to clean them out I wound up with hundreds of bubbles. I tried several things to clean the particles off the sticky side of the film, and finally decided I had nothing to lose and scrubbed it with dishwashing soap and a sponge. To my suprise, the film cleaned up and stuck to the nook and has worked perfectly since.

    Don't waste your money

Like most screen protectors, putting them on without air bubbles is a major hassle. But on a nook, well, the view screen is so large that I could not do this without good sized air bubbles appearing. And unlike most devices, which usually makes the air bubbles less noticeable when they're turned on, the nook makes them even more prominent. Now, this is partly do to the fact that you are looking much closer at the nook than, say, your cellphone. In a couple of spots, the bubbles actually distorted the text. The protector for the touch pad causes sensitivity loss, and the turning the pages method associated with it was rendered almost impossible. The touch pad is mainly what you want to protect, but not for $15. Buy a thinner, cheap, generic protector and just cut them to fit. Otherwise, just get a good cover for your nook and use common sense to prevent scratches. The nook is pretty durable, and doesn't suffer the wear an tear that your phone or pda does.

    Not ready for Primetime

Not sure who's been writing the positive reviews, BUT for the "average Joe" who would buy this product and follow the directions it's not worth buying just yet. B&N needs to rethink this product. It's not reflecting well on their device. It does not go on easily and the screen cleaning pad/clothe that's provided does the opposite as advertised if you use it to clean your screen. You WILL get lint and dust on the screen that's trapped behind the plastic. A screen protector is a great idea, BUT this needs to be reevaluated. Four suggestions for a relaunch:

1 - Make it bigger to cover the screen better.
2 - Make it out of the same material that phone screen protectors are made out of so it "breathes" and lets the air bubbles out over time. It's impossible to get them all out no matter how careful you are.
3 - Provide MORE then one skin per $15 purchase. Most of the phone protectors come with a lot more then this one does. One shot is not enough. Most people will screw up the first one they apply.
4 - Provide some type of applicator like a hard card or something to smooth out the plastic and remove the bubbles.

The PDA phone market perfected this YEARS ago. I would expect the same level of service from a device that came after those other devices. This isn't hard and has been done before. If I spend +$300 on a device and a carry case, I would expect the $15 screen protector film to be better tested and designed.

Not the Best, but Not the Worst Either

First off, I love my nook. yay! That being said, I have the Jonathan Adler cover, the lycra light, and picked this up since it was in stock. As everyone else has said the film is a tad smaller than both of the screens- BUT- I had no problems with dust or air bubbles and am satisified because the film does exactly what it is supposed to do...maybe because I worked at a cell phone store for 7 years and could probably put the films on blind, who knows. I appreciated the pull tab on the film which helped me not put my fingers on the film.

A great hint is to use a credit card or grocery discount card and lightly rub towards the outside to remove any bubbles you might have...light pressure and you are good to go.

And BN Members should get their discounts on nook accessories...that is just plain annoying and rude, I can understand the not on e-books concept, but accessories...if I got my discount I would probably buy more stuff...just a thought.

    Screen protector works

The screen protector works well enough but is a challenge to apply without getting air bubbles and/or dust particles under it. I tried to clean the screen first with the cloth provided but it left its own lint which immediately attached to the sticky side of the screen protector. I will have to experiment with how to lift the dust from the underside of the screen protector and reapply it sometime but for now I've settled for some minor bubbles and dust particles. Also, it is a bit of a challenge to align it properly without inadvertently attaching it to the screen. Took me about four tries to get it as good as possible.

    Not wide enough

I personally did not like the film screen and ended up not even using it. The screen wasn't even wide enough, plus I was never able to get all the bubbles out.

Excellent product, but learn how to install it

I've had this on my nook for 3 months now with no problems.

It has a matte finish which is a must for this device.

I found this excellent install video on youtube that helped me out when I did get a speck of dust under during install.

search for "Barnes & Noble Nook Screen Shield + Case Install" incase the link doesn't work

You have one chance to get it right

I previously reviewed this item and gave it 2 stars. But, it was mostly my fault. I had a little speck of dust on the screen when i put the film on - which caused a bubble - which made me crazy.

I bought another kit and learned from my 1st attempt. you HAVE TO MAKE SURE your screen is 100% dust/lint free. i wiped mine down with the cloth the kit comes with and then sprayed some compressed air across the screen to make sure it was absolutely clean.

the film comes with a really convenient sticker to help you peel it off its backing. don't touch the sticky part of the film! line the top of the film up with the top of the nook screen. make sure its perfect. gently lay it down. it worked great. no bubbles at at all. no specks of dust.

same procedure with the touch screen. you HAVE to make sure its clean and you have ONE CHANCE to get it right.

the 2nd time around - i love it. it doesn't make the screen glare at all. its really, really unobtrusive. you can't even tell its on. i would recommend this - but you have to make sure to get it on right the 1st time!

Only using the film on the touchscreen

I put the protective film over the touchscreen first and found that it added a bit of shimmer to it and made it a little more difficult to see. I decided not to put the film on the reading screen because technically I shouldn't be touching my reading screen anyway, so I'd rather not diminish the readability of the e-ink.

    Not a big fan

I put this on before even taking my nook out of the packaging, as advised by another reviewer, and I used a credit card to smooth it flat while applying it ... I still have several air bubbles and some debris under it. Also, as previous reviewers have mentioned, the film does not extend all the way to the edges of the screen, which makes it difficult to apply correctly. Finally, I agree with a previous reviewer that the touch screen film makes it difficult to turn the pages by swiping your finger across the touch screen -- I can't get my nook to register that at all. I like the fact that this protects my nook's screen from scratches, but am considering removing it for the above reasons. Also, if you have to peel it off to reposition, the corner that you initially unstick will never adhere correctly. All in all, I'm not very happy with this product (although I'm thrilled with my nook).

Only using the touch screen portion

Not really much to say about this product: if you've ever used any of these type products for your cellphone or mp3 player, you pretty much know what you're getting. I'm only using the portion that covers the touch screen so that I don't scratch it. I also have the Industriell cover, so I don't feel a need for upper portion.

    Don't waste your money!

I debated over this product for a long time but against my better judgment I purchased it at my local store. I installed it exactly as the directions instructed and was really happy with it until I went to use the touch screen. I've never had any problems with my nook in the month or so since I bought it but after I put the screen protector on it my touch screen would only occasionally work and more often than not the lag would result in selecting something other than what I wanted and wasting my time. I immediately returned this to my local B&N where they thankfully took it back with no problem and gave me a full refund.

Returned mine after multiple failed application attempts

Sure, I'd love to protect my Nook screen but ideally I'd like to be able to see the screen even as it is being protected. The matte screen protector seems to protect air bubbles better than my nook screen. I consider myself a moderately intelligent consumer but applying this film successfully, eluded me.

The directions admit there will be bubbles that you can apparently gently push to the side of the protector with the soft cleansing cloth that is included. Yeah, not so much. I took this off and reapplied it in an attempt to get the bubbles out so many times that finally the corners stopped sticking because I handled them so much. I returned mine the same day.

    My advice? Buy a cover.

Hard to apply properly. Adhesive attracts dust. Could not eliminate air bubbles.

Keep the Top Section, Toss the Bottom

The section for the e-ink screen is great. It eliminates any glare and it's great protection. However, I had to remove the section for the bottom touch screen. I found that it interferrred with the touch sensitivity of the screen and caused delayed responses.
