I previously owned a Nook Color (whick I sold to purchase the Nook Tablet) and my duaughter owns a 3rd Generation Kindle (Kindle Keyboard they are calling it now). She will be giving it to her brother to get one of these for Christmas. This machine is fantastic. While your non-Barnes & Noble content is limited to 1GB on the machine itself (1GB can be about 200 of any combination of books apps or songs...that is a pretty good amount of information)....and you can add anything you want to an SD card...up to 32GB. This is not so very different from Amazon's approach...they want you tied to the content they offer as well. (The machine also has 1GB of RAM...which is different....but is not what people are talking about...) It IS MOST CERTAINLY possible to side-load content...books, music, movies.... APPS FROM OTHER SOURCES.....without rooting the device...directions can be found online if you search Nook Tablet sideloading. I have found that the content Barnes & Noble offers is very sufficent...they don't have as many apps...but from the looks of things...the app library is growing by the week...looks like new apps are being added every Wednesday...according to the dates of on the new apps. The screen is beautiful. Movie clips that I have seen so far look excellent. Much more vibrant than the Nook Color. Everything the Nook Color did...this does and does much faster. This machine is very afforable...worth the money... and should do what the average person would want it to do and more.

1. "HOT" Design! I like it because it has a unique light design, my wife likes it because it looks "fashionable" and its VERY LIGHT (in fact it feels like it weights 1/2 of iPad. SIMPLE! SIMPLE! SIMPLE! Pull it out of the box, turn on and it is set up in and ready for internet and book/app browsing in under 10 minutes! RUNS REALLY FAST, just like any other computer in the house - no delays. 2. Volume Controls and Power Buttons > On The Body > Convenient Unlike Amazon Fire where you have to exit a program to adjust the volume. Unlike Samsung Galaxy where you have to search for the "On" button every time. Central "n" button "wakes" it up and puts it to "sleep" 3. BATTERY LIFE > don't need to re-charge it like apple all the time 4. SUPER LIGHT WEIGHT > oh I may have already mentioned it 5. BRIGHT COLORFUL SCREEN > no worse than iPad, except i like nook better because it is easier to hold 6. INTERNET, BOOKS, MOVIES, APPS, FACEBOOK, EMAIL, ANYTHING YOU CAN THINK OF, basically, a fully functional tablet. 7. I love it because it is light and it literally fits in the pocket of my leather jacket, while being large enough to reed freely 8. My 1-year old loves it because I downloaded about 6 different apps including "Sounds for Kids" and every time he is about to cry, I run the app and teach him about different animals, cars, musical instruments, etc.. I also purchased Dr.Seuss animated apps and "cars" animated apps and a variety of children games for him to learn alphabet and he LOVES it. Also, unlike iPad he does not abuse the on/off button, because it is not standard and in the shape of an "n" so he leaves it alone. 9 My wife loves it because she can read all of her gossip magazines and it is super light to carry around when she carries all the other stuff for the baby or during shopping (which is when I get to use it) :) 10. Everything is super simple, well designed, fashionable, animated, easy to use, self-explanatory and, basically my new favorite product to take around with me after iPad, which I now will use mainly for work. 11 and a half stars!!!! 11. Oh, and also I love it because it has books in different languages!! 12. And it is my understanding that Barnes and Noble offers free wi-fi where you can read any digital book, without purchase for 1 hour! 12 stars!!!

Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged. It has been confirmed that the Nook Tablet only allows *1GB* of its storage to be used for your own content - so in reality, it basically can't be sideloaded. 1GB is next to nothing.
In addition, it has been discovered that unlike its predecessor, the Nook Tablet has a locked bootloader. This means that unlike the Nook Color, those who dislike the 1GB restriction will not be able to change this with firmware modifications. While the Nook Tablet is technically an Android device, all of the best advantages of Android (open source development, Android Market access, etc.) have been removed from the device.

I just got my Nook tablet yesterday (first one I've ever owned btw) and was immediately in LOVE!!! I actually preordered the Kindle Fire initially a few weeks ago, but now I know for sure I made the right choice with the Nook Tablet. Unfortunately I had a very small and cosmetic issue with my new tablet in regards to using the cloth from the screen protector pack; the cloth stained the edges of my tablet...as well as my fingers (Probably wouldn't have been a big deal if I hadn't just got it yesterday). However, went back to the store this morning, briefly explained the issue and it was exchanged!!! No series of questions asked and no problems; it was awesome!!! The customer service was amazing!!! So, if you need another reason to buy the Nook Tablet other than it's just an amazing device to begin with, remember......Bricks and Mortar baby!!! Try to see if you can get that kind of service with the Kindle Fire.......I Don't Think So!!! Thanks Barnes&Noble for being you =-)
Also, wash your screen protector cloth before first use so you don't have the same issue I did.

To those that are giving one star reviews concerning the memory, these are the folks who are wanting to use the nook not for what it is intended but to hack it and exploit it to fulfill their geeky programming tendencies. They want a box of open source material to use as what they will .This is a product by a company that is meant to be used for what it is built for. Beyond that you are in your own boat.

I am a Nook junky and have had all of the Nooks. The new Nook is lighter and the screen is crisper. I can watch my favorite tv shows and movies. It is a complete entertainment device.

Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.I just bought this tablet. It has a great screen and HD content looks great. It does need an SD card if you want to load your music or other books not purchased through BN. However, it does not require a fast card. Therefore, a 32 gig will be affordable.
I look forward to this being both a reader for work, school (textbooks are available for lending for this dewvice) and home. It is a great entertainment choice when my wife and I travel with the grandchildren. They may even enjoy movies on it while in the car or plane.
So far I can find nothing bad with this device. If I do, I will update this review. I wold have no problems or hesitation buying this device for others. It will make a great gift for anyone.

This is an amazing Tablet for the money. I love it! Highly recommended. MicroSD cards are cheap, so everyone needs to stop complaining about having to add one! I am just glad there is a slot for one and I can choose what size to get. The graphics are beautiful and processor is very fast. Lots of apps that I love (and books, of course). :)

My older nook will be handed to my spouse for reading books only. One disappointment is that the new tablet does not sync with my older nook for shelves and wish lists so therefore no 5 stars. Otherwise, the screen is fantastic, the speed like lightning. Happy with the purchase. Can't put the darn thing down....very nice indeed!

Being a previous owner of the first nook, and an owner of the nook color, I upgraded to this model! This NOOK is awesome! Its a little lighter, the screen is crisp and pictures look amazing! It's fast! The app store has improved! I am extremely glad I picked up this model. They have certainly stepped up! The power this thing has is awesome!

I own this item. My expectations weren't high, I read the "Specs" page on the nook website before ordering and saw it was a small tablet with 16GB storage. Nowhere did it say that you can't really use the 16GB the way you want to. As it turns out, you can only use 1GB of it to put your own content - music, books, whatever. I went back and read the "Specs" page again very carefully. Yes, it was hidden in the fine print, footer 6. So I guess legally my bad. Let me exercise my opinion as a consumer then, and express how utterly dissatisfied I am with the way this information was conveyed and hidden in footer 6 of small fine print that is barely legible. Advertising this product as having 16GB when I can only use 1GB the way I want to seems like a pretty important thing to mention in the main body of the "Specs" page, instead of mentioning it in very small print at the bottom of the page where the color of the text is grey on a white background. Very disappointed in the purchasing experience at Barnes and Noble.

I bought mine yesterday, and absolutely love it! Without question the best purchase I've made in a long time. It's powerful, quick, and very responsive. Video looks great, the app selection is fine and will get better soon. The book selection is the best, and I can hardly wait to check out the magazine selection.
Overall, an outstanding value. Don't wait!

It looks great! I played with it in the store and can't wait for mine to get charged. I have a question. I want to get 32 GB micro sd card but I have noticed that there are a lot of different ones. The specs say you can use a 32GB with microSD¿7 memory card. When I went looking for one there were different classes like class 2 or class 4, what is the difference and does it matter? Thanks

I purchased a Nook and a Fire at the same time to do a comparison. I found that the Fire, hands down, was the better device for me. I am returning the Nook because of the insufficient storage on the device, the absent cloud-based access and the inability of the Nook to be rooted or side-loaded. I just can't deal with the fact that the Nook is locked. I want to be able to tinker with it. Anyway, hope this helps any of you looking at the two of them together.

I'm not a huge reader or know a lot about this type of stuff, but after researching all the ereaders I chose the nook tablet. So far I am very pleased. I have been reading tons. Theres a lot of ways to get free books (wink) but most of the books here are cheap too
Some things I like about it
1. Can read in the dark, set it down and fall asleep.
2. easy to load books from macbook
3. no issues reading any ebook files
4. easy to load music and listen too while reading
5. pandora streams wonderfully
6. easy highlighting
7. page locks upright or moves to landscape.
Like i said i'm not a genius when it comes to this stuff. If I was to have a slight complaint it would be the speaker on the nook could have been better quality.. but it sounds decent
Also if you have any questions there are tons of youtube videos on how to do almost anything on the nook..
hope this review was helpful! cheers!

The Nook is incredible. A real keeper. I'm not sure if the other reviewers realize that they can buy a Sandisk card for about 8 bucks and then have 32g capacity.
