Ok- speaking as an actual owner of the device- I'm going to give the device its fair shake. It's excellent. While the resolution may be less sharp, the device shines on its own. It is able to play video for a while now with very little drain on the battery. The device does not get hot to the touch when it's working. It does not have the issues once encountered with the Nook HD+ (which I also own) with regards to the use of certain high-end Android applications. It fits in my white coat pocket (I'm a physician). The screen is amply bright. There is little or no lag time in switching from portrait to landscape mode when reading or running applications. With my device, with front/rear cameras, with free WiFi at any B&N location and the ability to shop, browse-for-free in-store (with certain limitations) and calling through Skype or Viber I think it's a win-win. Buy it and try it before you "die" it, folk. Enjoy the purchase the same way I do.

For watching movies, playing games or running popular Android apps, the Samsung Tab 4 NOOK is a perfect fit. But if your application is primarily to read, the last thing you want is a display with less resolution than the device it replaced. The tack-sharp displays of the HD and HD+ Nooks are still much better in this regard. Frankly, I'm a bit disappointed.

I find with my arthritis that the lightness of the device is a definite plus. I've already tried out the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 at Best Buy, and honestly can't tell the difference between it's resolution and my current Nook Tablet. The fact that it has free in-store support is another plus for me, so I'm looking forward to buying the one I have on reserve asap.

I have a hard time believing that all of the reviews here are by individuals that have actually seen the new Nook! If they had, they would have seen the screen! It is beautiful! The user experience with quad core processor and smooth and easier to navigate then with the older models . Since it's release yesterday I've had plenty of time to " take it for a spin " so to say..... And have really been enjoying it. I'm a big reader and found the text to be sharp and crisp. Love the front and rear facing cameras. Haven't used it yet, but, looking forward to skyping with friends and family, maybe even take a few pictures. Absolutely love the size and feel of the tablet , it's comfortable and easy to hold. Enjoy having the Nook and Google play store to shop. Plus I'm a big movie fan. Having storage of 8GB won't interfere with this as I intend to put a 32 GB SD into the device. I hope that before people write reviews, that they look at more then the specs they read on paper/internet. Trying it out makes a world of difference

Better than expected.

I am a full blown Apple user, was thinking of getting an iPad but I don't like the iOS Nook app. Picked up
the Galaxy 4 Nook yesterday. It's awesome. It's fast, more versatile than an iPad and the built in reader
is great. I do not notice any issues with the screen resolution. Awesome tab, check it out.

I bought this device yesterday (the day it came out) and I have to say I am extremely impressed with this nook. I love the fact that I can now organize my home screen to my satisfaction by having various folders. I love the fact that the nook still has the shelves that you can organize. It is running the android system which is nice. This nook also allows you to add apps that are not in the google play store or the nook app store. One thing that I love about this nook (though some people will disagree) is the size of the nook. It is roughly the size of a book which I find amazing. I have some nerve damage in my wrists so this is easy to hold and it feels almost like an actual book. I have yet to read a full book on this device but I will say that I love the look of the books. I flipped through a couple books last night and I loved the screen quality. Honestly, I have not noticed a difference in screen display when comparing it to my Nook HD. I do have a few more things that I need to check out but I am very pleased with this device.

I am exicted that they have worked with Samsung to offer a better product, but I love the screen size of my Nook HD+ as well as the 32GB. I'll keep watching for an upgrade to this one.

Bought one yesterday and I'm glad I did. Very nice to look at and read. Plays videos beautifully, but I'm still mostly a reader. It weighs a shade less than my Nook HD. I'm glad to have a product that is connected it a real manufacturer. Recommend.

The Device needs a camera of quality. It does not have one in either camera at the moment.

Samsung should no better my Note 3 has a 13 megapixel camera and shoots in 4K Video which is 10 times sharper than 1080p, this poor thing only shoots 720p video. Improve it before I would even think about buying this Device as a Nook or Samsung tablet.

The Samsung NOOK is sleek and light. I know people have mentioned the screen resolution a lot here, but I have to say, I have a NOOK HD+ and I cannot see a difference in the screen resolution. I know what the numbers say, but I am telling you, my eyes cannot detect a difference. I love the addition of the cameras for video chats and the GPS so now I can use location based apps that only worked on my phone before. If you have a Samsung device already you can also sync your Samsung account and access your Samsung apps and data. As for the screen size, this is a personal preference, but I have read on other sites that a 10.1 inch will come out in 60 days.

I currently have the HD+ and pretty happy with it. Camera is a nice feature on the new tablet. Much smaller than I had anticipated. My eyes are not as good as the use to be and need the larger screen. Hoping larger version with more gig comes out. Great partnership with Samsung. These should be pretty solid.

I read some of the other reviews and seriously people what were you expecting? I personally own the device and it has everything that I need and more to read my extensive collection of Nook and Kindle books. Adding additional memory for all of $11 wasn't difficult at all. I love the size and ease of use with this device and plan on using this as my sole e-reader. Definitely worth the amount of money I paid.

After using my Nook Color for years (and having it stolen 2 weeks ago), I bought the Samsung Tab 4 Nook as a replacement. First off, I can tell that because this is a tablet as well as a reader, the battery life seems to drain quicker- since there are more programs running. Although, turning the unit "on" takes less time and it starts quicker than prior Nooks. I used my Nook Color as a reader and nothing more, so the extra programs (Chrome, Google Play, Dropbox, etc) are not that important to me. I noticed the night vision is slightly different, it's not a true black background; however, you have more background color options, though you have no clock at the bottom to tell you how late your up reading. The unit is lite even with a case and responds quickly to page turning. Again, strictly using the Tab 4 as a reader, the resolution is perfect. Also, the bookmark responds quicker, and accessing the Nook store & library on the Home screen makes searching quicker. I noticed the "Wishlist" is not easily accessible as it was in prior Nooks. Overall, using the Tab 4 Nook as a reader is great, just a few minor adjustments in learning the new product.

The tablet is full of bloatware that I will never use... Somewhere around 30 apps that Samsung pre-installs. And you cannot remove them. Plus having the Samsung App store and the google store competing on the same device is not intuitive at all. I am not impressed.

I looked at the unit and its great looking. Faster, smoother running. Only problem is that it reduced the amount of memory by half of my old Nook and if I could move the BN books to a SD card I would really go for it.
Why keep reducing the amout of memory in all of these phones and tablets when ram has dropped so cheaply over the last few years since these devices started to come out.

I bought this device yesterday as a replacement for my Galaxy Tab 2. So far the new nook does everything I need it to do and it does it well. The only reason why this is a 4 star instead of a 5 star review is that even though the new nook has better specs than the Tab 2, with all of the added software and the custom interface the new nook does not seem to run faster than the Tab 2. Hopefully this will be fixed with an update.
