First off, I am not an electronics expert or into the "iPod generation" and I know very little about gadgets. I have a cellular phone that is for general and emergency calls and has no bells or whistles- that's just the type of person I am. With that said, I was very apprehensive to purchase anything that required any "electronic knowledge" or so I thought that's what the SD card was like for my nook. First off the card is tiny, I mean ridiculously small (about the size of your pinky nail). When I received it in an yellow envelope I laughed to myself thinking what did I get myself into, for what I paid. Oh how wrong I was, this little card is amazing. Right now on my nook I have 11 books all over 700-900 pages, pictures for screen savers and wallpapers these all haven't put a dent into the space allowed on this card plus the nook space. Installation of the card was so simple, at first I was panicking how to install it into my nook, but with some internet research I found a tutorial on "how to install" my minute card. I had my nook up and running with the SD card recognized within 7 minutes (hardest part for me was getting the backing off my nook). I am very pleased with my purchase and if I can do it, anyone can do it.

Since you have to have an internet connection to enjoy your Nook device
why not do a quick Google search and save some money. I found Kingston
8 GB SDHC cards (Class 4) for under $10 and well under $15 shipped to my home! Following the B&N website instructions I inserted the card and my device quickly acknowledged the new increased memory after a slight pause to integrate. The Class of the card (2, 4, 6, etc.) determines the download / upload speed to and from your computer. Class 4 is probably as slow as the average person will want to go. Be sure to buy the SDHC card and not just SD if you buy an 8 or 16 GB card. 8 GB is a lot more memory than most of us will ever use. Save some money and enjoy your Nook more!

Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.I have a bookcase entirely full of books, in some areas it is 3 deep on the shelf. I got the 8GB memory card with the intention of only saving my favorite books on it. I have over 62 books on my device now, with samll portion of these being samples. With that many books, I haven't even used 3% of the capacity. The internal memory is 2GB.
I do suggest however that you do not just lump this in with your nook purchase. Shop around for the best pricing...I found a 8GB micro SD card at Best Buy in the camera section for $29.99. They have these in several places throughout some stores and I've found that they "advertise" them specifically for cameras, game consoles, and cell phones. These different areas are also priced differently. These will come down once they come out with a bigger card. The 16GB is already out there, which would hold like 10,000 books...
Once you pick up the packages, you really can't tell which is which. As long as it is a 8GB micro SD card, it should work in this device as well.
I also suggest buying a memory card reader/writer. With the micro SD you will need an adapter, but these small handheld devices are around $10. I got mine at WalMart because carrying the USB cable is sometimes difficult. Since the eBooks will not download directly to the micro SD until is has filled the internal memory of the nook first, you can take the card out, put it in the reader, plug it into the computer and save the download directly to the card. The books or data on the card show up in "My Documents" on your nook instead of "My B&N Library".

I find it interesting that with 18 reviews and an average of 3 stars, only 6 reviews are shown on this site - none lower than a 4. The nook does not recognize the full capacity of this card (only 242Mb of 8Gb) and will not allow me to place anything on it. It does not show up anywhere on the device except the (wrong) capacity under settings. The card is fine, reading a full 7.6Gb under Explorer in windows. I'm very disappointed with this lack of transparency in the problem this card presents in the nook. It's not the card, but the Android OS that seems to be the problem - based on other forums outside of B&N. Wake up and put out a solution/warning that there may be more issues than you're showing in the reviews.

I purchased the SanDisk to add to my Nook; a gentleman at Barnes & Noble installed it for me. Barnes & Noble employees have been extremely helpful to me so I could learn to use my Nook to the best advantage. Many thanks!

The disk is a very good product. Simple to use and easy to install. I now have more than enough memory for my nook.

OMG!!! I got this thing, and I couldn't believe the size of this memory card. I am well versed in digital photography, so I have a little bit of background with memory cards. But, when I saw this, I was in shock! This is the tiniest memory card I could ever imagine, and I was afraid to even touch it. First of all, I figured they sent me the wrong product. What is this thing?!! Of course, I tried to install it wrong. Sorry, but there should have been better directions (I kept turning it around-how does it fit?). That said, once I got over my shock, it was fairly easy to install; and, yeah, I should have been smarter to begin with. Once installed, the card seemed to be formatted already-doesn't make sense. I did reformat it just to be sure............go to 'settings', hit 'device info', and hit 'SD Card'. You will see 'format SD Card' turned off. To turn it on, hit 'Unmount SD Card'. Do that, and you will see that 'Format SD Card' is turned on. Hit 'Format SD Card'. First, the screen says it can't do it, and then it says 'formatting completed'.
This is really pretty cool. Now, all I have to do is figure out how to get my pictures on this card, and I'll be set. The cost of the extra memory is well spent; and, hopefully, I'll be able to carry my pictures around with me on my NOOKcolor.

I just can't believe it was that easy ! This task took me 2-3 minutes and I could have had a child do it. Just go to the "users guide" on the Barnes & Noble website in the nook section and you'll get the greatest step-by-step instructions you ever saw, including graphic drawings. Just a note. After installation I had to turn the Nook off and turn it back on again to get it to recognize the new memory chip. That's not unusual though. Many devices require that procedure. And as a kicker, you get the chip memory, PLUS the basic memory (about 1.2Gb) as a total. I now have almost 9Gb in my standard nook. Way cool, thanks B&N.

I was a little nervous taking off the back cover, but the directions on the website on how to install were very clear. It is extremely tiny, and it took me less than 2 minutes. I see 7.39 GB available for use. I'm very pleased.

Overview
The microSDHC uses the latest advancements in flash memory technology to deliver the smallest memory card in the world. Measuring about one-fourth the size of a standard SD card, the microSDHC card provides high-performance and ample storage for use of media rich files such as music, videos, photographs, as well as more digital book space on your nook.
