Manufacturer Short Changes You On Parts Required

My daughter received this kit as a Christmas gift and we were both enthusiastic to try it out. We sat down to work on it together and found out in the FIRST experiment that the kit didn't include enough equipment to actually complete the experiment - and we are talking about a very simple experiment. Basically the drawing depicts the use of three small gears and the equipment list for the kit shows that only two were included in the kit in the first place. These gears are color coded by size and the same colors are used in the experiment diagrams so this isn't a misinterpretation or misunderstanding of the kit (I'm an engineer and I'm pretty good at counting to three). The sad part about it is that the instruction book appears to be relatively well done and thought out - so what we have here is probably a cheap accountant or business manager somewhere cutting corners to make an extra buck - kind of a short sighted proposition since it makes me assume the rest of their science kits are the same way.
