The pieces are easy for my child to hold and stand up on end, which makes for great alternative playing. The matching pictures on the board are very helpful in finding the correct place as well!

Melissa & Doug wooden puzzles are very good for children 1-3 years old. We own a couple of these puzzles and my daughter really seems interested in putting each piece where it should. These are great for hand-eye coordination and language development.
The reason I give them three stars is because the pieces are laminated with paper and if the child puts them in their mouth the paper (and its glue) will begin to peel.

This farm animal puzzle is very nice. The animals are chunky and easy for a child to grasp; both to pull out and put back in. Animal patterns are painted on the puzzle beneath each animal so matching is easy for beginners. Colors are bright and attractive. The only discrepancy between the picture puzzle on the website and the one we received is that the edges of the animals are plain wood instead of being painted. Not a deal breaker, obviously; just a noted difference. Overall, the puzzle will work well and stand up to repeated use very nicely.

I bought this for my 18 month old granddaughter and she loves it. The puzzle sizes are just the right size and there are not too many pieces making it easy not to lose any. She plays with this all the time and we are finding this puzzle to be a great early learning tool for her. It's also sturdy and well manufactured and I would definitely recommend it.

We saw this puzzle at my niece's house and her 1 year old twins loved it. I bought for my 2 year old grandson and he loved it. I do not know if it is the animals or the bright colors but the kids were drawn to it.

Loved it so much we got her the Safari Puzzle to go with it. She learned new words, colors, and piecing it together. The chunky pieces make it easy for small hands to grasp and they stand on their own. A multi use puzzle.
My only critique is that you get the finished puzzle as shown in the picture. Our barn yard puzzle is the same but not the version of the safari puzzle we purchased. Only the top of the animal pieces are finished while the sides and bottom are not, you can see the pressed material used. Bummer but not the end of the world.
