Overview

This sentence-building game uses unique pentagon-shaped cards with multiple conjugations of funny words, famous names and familiar places.

With a hand of 10 cards, players try to score the most points per round by constructing the longest, grammatically correct, and sensible sentence. Each card used in a sentence is worth 5 points, but using some of the more difficult conjugations on the card can earn you bonus points.

Any player can object to another players sentence, on either grammatical grounds, or the fact that the sentence just doesn't make sense. The defending player and the objecting player get to argue their points to the rest of the players, who form a jury.

The jury gets to vote on whether or not the sentence is acceptable. Half the fun is trying to defend, explain, and justify a completely ridiculous sentence to the other players. Accepted sentences score points, rejected sentences get you zip. First player to reach 200 points wins.

For ages 8 and up.

Picked this game up because I thought it looked really unique when I saw the package at my local B&N. When you buy a new game, you don't want to be a dud if you introduce it to friends and family or give it as a gift - well no worries here. We opened it up, shuffled all the cards (there were many!) and started by everyone flipping ten cards over all at the same time. I never knew, these people I thought I knew, could be so funny and creative! Wallflowers bloomed, and kids "wowed" adults with the crazy stuff they thought up... this is a winner!

    Fun Game!

My son who is 24 years recommended this new game. He and his wife really enjoyed playing it with their friends. I had never heard of it. So I started shopping around for it at several other stores that didn't carry it. I finally found it at Barnes and Noble. I'm so happy I purchased it! I played the game with my grandchildren ages 7, 11, & 12 years old. We had so much fun laughing. The children really knew their sentence structure with nouns, verbs, adverbs, and adjectives. I would highly recommend this game.

Fun game for the whole family

My 5th grade daughter loves this game. In a nutshell, you draw x number of cards, each has a word that is a part of speech (verb, noun, adjetive, etc) and you, together with the other players, try to build a sentence with your own stack of words as quickly as possible using as many of the cards, more cards used equals more points for your completed sentence. It's a fast-paced game because you are racing against the other players to complete a sentence first, and once you've completed yours the clock starts ticking for the remaining players to finish what they were working on. After sentences are built, then you read your sentence to the rest of the players, the 'jury,' and they can decide whether or not it makes sense or is even a sentence... and believe me, you have to use your imagination a bit because the 'sentences' turn out pretty crazy. A good laugh for sure! Pre-readers can be part of a team by teaming up with an adult, if nothing else, they will probably enjoy listening to the sentences that have been created and laughing along.

    Too competitive for my taste...

As the title suggests, the court theme of this game makes it very competitive. I played with my parents; while my mom and I wanted to laugh at sentences, my dad was adamant about the debate. The atmosphere quickly went from amusing to defensive. Take into account the kind of group you're playing with: it can be a lot of fun depending on the mood of the group and how friendly you want to judge the sentences, but feelings are probably prone to get hurt. I wouldn't recommend this game to anyone particularly sensitive to criticism.

    Guilty as Charged

I love this game! My family and I have had so much fun creating sentences. When I don't have enough for a full game, we play a rapid game by just drawing 5 cards and setting the timer.

    A Fun Game

I purchased this as a family gift at Christmas time and since then we've played it with family and friends. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed this game, in fact we were invited to our friends after Christmas with the request that we bring the "You've Been Sentenced Game" with us. Since then our daughter liked it so well she tried to find it in her area and was disappointed to find that B & N didn't have any left.
It is a game that anyone can play. Some of the sentences that are made up are so ridiculous they bring loads of laughs to everyone. In fact, at times we laughed so hard that tears formed in our eyes. Whoever thought this game up gets a gold star!!! DeeOH
