Love it
This book is the best my english teacher uses it in class and all the students love it. You get exposed to so many new words that you would never know the meaning unless you look it up. If your trying to increase your vocabulary this is the book you want to purchase.

Excellent Vocabulary
I've been an English teacher for 36 years and I've seen vocabulary books that just bore the kids. But this book really does help kids better and i give it A+++ on the vocabulary test.

Good Book, check it out
This is an excellent tool for building your vocabulary. But for the college bound urbanite, try '15 Easy and Fun Ways College Freshmen Can Improve Their Vocabulary', by Rico Thompson. Here I combine the basics of vocabulary building with basic college survival. Each book presents different solutions to the same problem...How to use your vocabulary to improve your life? But I prefer 15 Ways. Smile!

must for every learner
I have just completed this book. I could not stop my self reading it and studying and learning new english words from the very first day. From my point of view it is a matchless companion for every student of EFL. I can not explain my satisfaction in words. Thanks a lot for such a marvelous publication. Please bring out more such books. Satish K. Shah

My Students Like It
I have used the early editions of 1100 Words for many years. Now that I am back in the 9th grade English classroom for college-bound students I look forward to using this new edition. My students do well in high school and return from college to thank me for making them learn from this book. They do well on the SAT and understand idioms to which many other students have never been exposed. The students tell me that they feel like they were better prepared for college because of the book. The book is organized perfectly for weekly lessons. My only complaint is that most terms are not divided into 5 week sections. However, with a little care I can manage to complete the semester at a logical location in the book. Suggestion/Question: Teacher helps for those of us who are using the book in the classroom??? I wrote my own quizes and tests which were different than those in the book. And, of course, the number of errors in the answer keys is a small concern. The extra work to locate these will be worth it. The book is well organized. At one lesson per week, we do not finish the book in the school year. I encourage my students to finish it in the summer. That way they are ready for their PSAT tests in the fall.

Excellent Idea, BUT
I have recently purchased this book to use with my college-bound students who need extra vocabulary work, as, for many of them, English is not their first language. The layout and presentation are excellent, the extracts are interesting and informative, and the 'Panorama' section is relevant. I am, however, very concerned about the errors in the answer section and the occasional typo. There are a total of 21 errors - surely too high for a text which aims to 'improve college grades' and to help you 'score high on the SAT1'. Check the answers carefully - the errors are fairly obvious and so should have been spotted before publication. This spoils an otherwise excellent book, which deserves 5 stars.

big vocabulary in bite-sized chunks
This vocabulary book is very well structured. You work on 10 words for each of 5 days, and then a weekly quiz. The text stimulates and preps your mind to soak up the definition of each word by first showing you its use in a paragraph, then testing you with fill-in-the blank sentences. Finally, you learn the definitions via a matching quiz. But, after the paragraph and blank sentences, you almost know the definitions already! Also, each day a language idiom is presented as a further boost to a highly functional vocabulary. This is a great vocabulary book. I highly reccommend it.
