Wow...this series is so good that I want it to be a movie. It has everything...magick, hunks, hot sex, evil villains, and an amazing supporting cast of characters. KJC has done an amazing job worldbuilding a place that is both familar and yet mystical. Crane is amazing as a man of strong will who is falling in love with a powerful man. He is sexy, dangerous, and courageous. Stephen is just as dangerous, but with a heart of gold...and an imperative to protect Crane at all costs. The chemistry between these two really works for me in a way it doesnt always happen when you have such an uneven relationship...at least from the outside. It was great watching Stephen play his hand close to his chest and Crane doing everything to lock him down...yum ;-) Oh yeah...there is a murder mystery that kept me guessing. I see there's two more installments planned over the next year and I hope that means this will be a long lasting series...oh and a movie...I really want a movie!

In the second volume of Charles' series, A Charm of Magpies, Lucien and Stephen's relationship continues to evolve and strengthen. We finally get to meet a few of Stephen's justiciar coworkers (including his partner Esther Gold, and his protege Jenny Saint). Plus, we learn a bit more about Lucien and Merrick's adventures in China. Oh, and the gigantic rats are awesomely horrifying. Highly recommended to fans of Zoe Archer, Gail Carriger, Erzabet Bishop, and Lisa Shearin. -- lyradora

This is a great sequel. The writing quality of this series is fantastic. The plot is engaging, the imagery vivid, and the relationship of the two leads comes across as genuine and one you can't help rooting and cheering for. This has easily become one of my favorite series.
