    Manilow Amazes

I have long been a fan of Barry Manilow, but not a great fan of the cover albums he's released over the past 10 years. I enjoyed the fifties album, but my waning interest in each subsequent cover album seemed to depress any hopes that Barry could still create something wonderful and unique. "15 Minutes" is wonderful and unique. It's a Grammy contender. This is a worthwhile CD for fans and non-fans alike. If you're a fan, you already know the man has a gift of interpretation; he can take any lyric and wrap it up in music that conveys a mood or emotion better than anyone else in the business. "15 Minutes" - which is a rags-to-riches-to-rags tale of a young man's ascent into superstardom and descent into hell - doesn't have one weak song on it. If you're a non-fan, then you'll probably be surprised by how much you'll enjoy it, because this isn't your typical milk-chocolate bevy of ballads Barry is famous for. Most of the material is dark and bittersweet; the songs are either up-tempo and driving or dark and fairly disturbing. Together they tell a compelling story of success and failure that's hard to resist and easy to relate to in a culture that glories in making and breaking its celebrity demigods. One song in particular - "Letter From A Fan/So Heavy So High" intertwines the torment of a stalker fan and the anguish of a performer whose substance abuse has thrown him over the edge of all reason. The songs portraying the singer's rise to fame are great - but the songs depicting his fall from grace are even better. They're beautifully tragic, strangely inspiring and gloriously cathartic. Even more inspiring is that all this came from a 68-year-old singer who fearlessly broke his own mold in daring to try something new, be something new, and embrace his creativity in a way the Clive Davises of the music industry could never understand or support.

Pure Joy for fans, a real pleasure for everyone else

Can't wait to hear more of this CD. So far the snippets blow me away! Long time coming for so many of Manilow's loyal fans and all will find this CD to be exactly what we have been waiting for.
For the casual listener this CD is a must, each well crafted song expresses an emotion like nothing other than music can do. Manilow aims to make us "feel" and he does just that with this CD. looking forward to hearing "Bring on Tomarrow" played at every wedding an anniversary for years to come.
Bravo Barry! Home run for sure.
