Like so much of this series as it has progressed, this book expands the basic premise without enhancing it. It is an interesting enough read for taking the story out of Europe, but the characters are neither exciting nor memorable. Only the airship in the first part contains any element of sci-fi/fantasy. The memoirs of William Tecumseh Sherman cover much of the same material about California, and have more excitement and humor. I used to love this series, but it seems like all the wonder, adventure, and energy has leaked out of it.Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
