    John Mayall 70th Birthday Concert

Excellent live set with guest artists shows that British bluesman Mayall is still going strong at 70!

Back to the "Cradle" in Laurel Canyon

Viewed the DVD recently and was blown away. The CD has additional cuts not on the DVD (California and others); so ordered the CD today. Mayall is quite noticeably "in shape" and that lends to his non-stop performance role in this finely blended set of tunes taking you back to the mid to late 60's and forward to the present. The well conceived production features Mick Taylor in fresh adaptations of "Walking on Sunset" and "Somebody Acting Like a Child and Clapton thriving, especially on two of his own songs, "Hoochie Coochie Man" and "Tore Down". The Bluesbreakers' Buddy Whittington is also superb on guitar. He certainly doesn't want to take a back seat to Eric and Mick, it appears, but works well with both. All in all a marvelous DVD which is very well received by a packed house in Liverpool!

    Mayall Hits a Home Run

I had fogotten about John Mayall until last summer. I found an original vinyl copy of his album with Eric Clapton . Then I stumbled upon this one. Boy, it really knocks your socks off. You have to play it loud though... There's a few cuts from that album on this live performance that are great: "Hideaway", "Have You Heard" and "All Your Love". If you're a Clapton fan, you can't go wrong.
