The book did come out before the movie...kinda.

One reviewer states that it is too bad the book did not come out before the movie. The Movie was taken from 'In God We trust, all others pay cash', which is listed as a novel but is actually several of Jean's short stories strung together. The stories are much fuller as only the main point of each was transposed into the movie. If you want the WHOLE experience get the original book and anything else by Shepard, as he was the comsumate story teller.

A Definite Must for Those Who Loved A Christmas Story

This book takes you through the stories that Jean Shepherd originally wrote and then used to compile into the beloved movie we now watch every Christmas! Of course he had to use some variations on the stories to make it all fit in the movie's time frame....don't be disappointed that it didn't match the movie exactly! Just read it and then go back and watch the movie...you'll soon realize just how much of the movie fits the very descriptions he used in his original story. I was amazed at the description of the window display!!! PS. You'll Shoot Your Eye Out!

Very Funny! This book is just a irreverently humorous as anyone

    Very Funny!
This book is just a irreverently humorous as anyone who has seen the film would expect. Jean Sheperd was a very talented storyteller and had a unique sense of humor that comes shining through in print as it did in film. This is a great alternative to the typical holiday books although not all the stories take place during the holidays. Fans of the film will especially enjoy this anthology.

My dad was just like the old man

This book is so hysterical. My dad wass just like the old man. He would have put that lamp in the front window for all to see. So, that would have been my life. And yes, I had my own Scut Farcus affair. I beat the crap out of my bully, too.

    Unlike the movie

I gave this book a superior rating because the story is a good one, and it's by Jean Shepherd, but ...if you love the movie, love every inch of the movie, you may be alittle disappointed in the book, only because it dosen't parrot the magnificent motion picture. Too bad the book didn't come out before the film. Sue M, Ft. Myers, Fl.
