    Great historical novel!

I loved this book - couldn't put it down. Interesting, well thought out story, realistic characters and a great ending pushed this novel to 5 stars for me. I'm looking forward to another book from this author.

One of my favorite reads... very tasteful "whodunnit"

One of my favorite reads... very tasteful "whodunnit" with an interesting love story woven in.  I usually don't care for period pieces, but this story is not a typical 1900's tale.  It has components of mystery, tragedy, familial turmoil, social status, mental illness, and lost love.  But I my favorite thing is that the main character is an intelligently strong, educated young woman who wants to pursue medicine and life on her own terms.  In order to clear her patient's name, she needs to solve a murder.  Because she is a WOMAN of "new medicine", she isn't taken seriously... by anyone.  So she takes matters into her own hands.
