Perfect Book if You are Considering Psychotherapy or Like Learning about Psychology
Best book I've read on the subject. Dr. Morella takes the mystery out of the Psychotherapy process. He defines the different types of mental health providers, the different kinds of therapy, and the different formats for therapy. In his chapter, "Important Issues to Understand in Psychotherapy", he empowers the perspective client with information aiding them in taking an active part in their own healing and to be better prepared for the therapy process. There is an excellent chapter on "Children and Adolescents in Psychotherapy". One chapter I found very important was on obtaining a referral to a therapist complete with specific questions to ask your perspective therapist in a phone interview. Dr. Morella further arms the reader with an excellent chapter on resources; he lists other books, websites, agencies, support groups, etc. that can help with a multitude of psychological issues.

The title says it all.
Dr. Morella does a terrific job of explaining to the readers the different types of psychotherapy, qualities to look for in a therapist, and ways for parents to get children into therapy. The book is well written and can be read and understood no matter what your level of education. He also adds some comic releif throughout the book. He does an outstanding job with helping the reader understand the truth about psychotherapy and the difference between clinical practice and the medias perception. Also he he provides names and contact information of therapist and organizations that can further help you in your decision to receive or recomend psychotherapy. All in all a great book for any reader who wishes to know more about psychotherapy for themselves, family members or friends. Very informative.

Review of "A Guide for Effective Psychotherapy,"per Sue Sias.
When reading "A Guide for Effective Psychotherapy,"by Dr. Morella not only was the book well organized, the information was extremely useful and clear. This book did an excellent job in taking medical jargon and writing it in a way that was clear for all to read, and to enjoy. I would definitely recommend this book to one who is interested in the subject, one who is dealing with areas that are spoken about in the book, or just to students who will have to take psychology.

Completely understandable
Whenever I first had this book assigned to me to read, I absolutely dreaded having to read it, but after beginning the first chapter I was completely shocked how much I enjoyed and was able to relate to Dr. Morella's writing. Written casually, with any jargon explained in a way as to leave no question of its meaning, it was quick and easy read. It was organized in a very effective way and I had no problem following the concepts at all. I would recommend this book to anyone searching out information on psychotherapy, or anyone interested in psychology. Shiloh E. Psych 1010

Great Book
This book is a great asset to anyone who is looking for psychotherapy for themselves or maybe a family member or friend. It outlines the basic principle used in psychology today, as well as what to expect on the first visit. It gives great suggestions to someone who knows they want therapy but doesn't know where to look. It also provides a list of available resources to find out more information about a particular problem. If you think you or someone you know may need therapy, this book will help you a lot.

Easy Read
When I first began reading a psychology text book, I was blown away by all the jargon used to explain the same concepts Dr. Morella explained in this book. He did so without all the jargon--anyone could understand the information presented in Dr. Morella's book. I believe that this book would be very helpful for someone who was considering therapy but did not know where to start, or had some qualms about therapy in general. Unlike psychology textbooks, this book is not at all difficult understand. It clarified much of the information presented in psych. class and in my textbook. To lift the reader's mood and give the book a somewhat conversational tone, Dr. Morella included "mental health jokes" that I found very entertaining. ^_^

I have read Mr John Morella's "A Guide For Effective Psychotherapy", and i have really enjoyed it. In the book he desribes many types of therapy. He also lets you know which therapist is best suited for you and everyone else in different cases. Mr. Morella also tells you what really happens during therapy, and not just about what the media puts out about therapy. I really enjoyed reading his book.

How helpful this Book was to ME.
Before reading Dr. Morella book, "A guide for Effective Psychotheray", I was truely clueless to what a therapist really do. Now that I have read this book about all the different types of mental health providers, such as; psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, marriage and family counselors, etc. It also shows the different kind of formats for pychotherapy, I was wonder if I had a problem would I have to be by myself with a therapist. In the book in chapter 4, explains how you can be in any group you feel that fits you and i would prolly want to be in a group therapy, just so I could get back other feedbacks. However, this is why i feel this chapter helped me more to understand the different tpyes of group.

I have learned so much by reading this book. Like I said before I did not understand what a psychology do, but now that I have read this book I understand everything. If anything would have to be added in the chapter I would probably say add a chapter about suicide and how it occurs. Looking at all the chapters made me realize how therapist are the best. And if we add a chapter about suicide it would probably make that book a little more interesting. I mean everything was explained but that subject. Once a teen read this book with a chapter about how suicide occurs and other information they will never get rid of this book. I really did enjoy reading through this book and showed me plenty information that I never knew about. -

Informative and Useful
Do you have questions about psychotherapy? It is the purpose of this book to walk you through the steps of therepy. Dr Morella explains the different styles of therepy and the different types of therapist available in layman terms. He guides you step by step through the process of selecting a proper therapist to recieving the proper treatment. He presents many aspects of the treatment course that I have found beneficial. If you or someone you know is considering treatment this book is a great tool to ease the process and calm your fears. I would recomend this book to anyone thinking about psychotherapy or anyone taking a high school or college psychology course. Dr Morella has done an excellent job of explaining complicated medical matters in simple and understandable terms. Parents there is even a very informative section about doing the right thing for your child when considering behavioral problems. Read the book then pass it on to your friends and family because everyone can benefit from it.

After reading Dr. Morella's book, I find myself to be much better informed on matters of therapy. It was written in a way that was informative and easy to understand. I am thoroughly enjoying having him as a psychology teacher, he is extremely knowledgeable on the subject of human behavior and the different types of therapy. His experience has helped to produce what I thought was a great book for people looking to learn more about the process of therapy. I am looking forward to reading his next book and wish him the best of luck with it!
