True to the Spirit of Adventure

Kayaking is not an easy art. At every step-from touching water to getting back to terra firma-lurk the dangers of tossing, turning, toppling, capsizing, drowning, dashing against undesirable objects and even being surprised by dangerous creatures like snakes. But can these threats curb the spirit of the adventurer? Not likely.

There are codes, rules, and laws like AWA Safety Codes and stipulations like Hull Registration which all aim to make this dangerous adventure sport more amiable. But as the author makes it clear there is no more important law like self-discipline and your skills honed by practice. You must always stay alert to hazards and avoid down at all cost.

Because of the dangers associated at every step of Kayaking, the detailed guidelines provided in this Bible are essential, and they cover all varieties and dimensions of the sport, be it white-water kayaking, inland or coastal cruises, black water rides, competitions, river travel, and so forth.

The Kayaking gears also offer a great variety, which may confuse the uninitiated amateur, as each particular gear has an appropriate purpose. For instance the type, capacity and length of the kayak have to be considered, so also for paddles, blades, equipment, and supplies.

The author explains all the techniques right from the way to carry the boat to the water's edge to the basic and advanced strokes-from the traditional bow stroke to the modern J-stroke, as well as essential skills like the Eskimo roll. The author not only explains the skills, but also guides the kayaker in making the correct move in the real life situation: to pick up the best stroke while paddling, how to master the rescue act, how to avoid capsizing, what to do if capsized.

For the kayaker interested in racing there are plenty of tips, as also for mastering Kayaking lingo.

After presenting every possible aspect of the sport in minutest details in question answer form the author, in the true fashion of a master coach concludes, ".preparation, training, practicing, learning, and developing skills, along with strength is the greatest part of the solutions to master kayaking race. Keep in mind, winners do not always finished first."

    Inspiring words indeed.
